I thought that the volunteer radio station said that you could leave, or be hung, drawn and quartered over playing that recording? Was it another of our Members who faced this choice?

I think it must have been someone else, Mike. We'd probably be 'invited' to ply our trade elsewhere if we refused to play these sort of tunes. Indeed, in the last few Friday evening Rock 'n' Roll shows I did I included a number of tunes banned by the BBC when they were first released.

The station even runs a little piece quite regularly to remind listeners that we play tunes from an earlier era which contain things that are now considered offensive by some and it ends with the line, "If you are likely to be offended, switch off now and don't tune to Angel Radio again!"

Hi Pete. Radio Angel rang a bell, and soon the old grey matter remembered that I'd read an article in SAGA magazine.

No definitely not me although I can't remember who did appear in the article. It was probably either the station manager, Tony Smith, or my good friend Pete Cross.

Pete was the one who gave me my station name of The Janitor by once telling everyone on-air that as I worked at the Tangmere Museum I had to be the chap with the brown warehouse coat and flat hat who swept the hangar floors - in other words, the janitor. I liked it and it stuck - my Friday rock 'n' roll show is even called 'Jumpin' With The Janitor".

That Saga article brought us in a load of new listeners - hope you may be one, one day!

I was disappointed not to see the animals walking on your arc, two by two.
I'm glad it didn't prick my ears; even at 110V, I imagine it would be rather nasty.
Why don't more countries copy America in this regard?
I imagine that it's less resource-gobbling to make 110 rather than 240.
Many appliances already have switches to utilise both voltages.

Mike residential utility electric here in the States is, 60hz single phase 2 pole 120v L-N/240v L-L

... with each pole being 180° apart.

Why we don't all use the same voltage has some simple answers:
For one, hz cycles.
Nikola Tesla ( whom I share the same B day with) found that 60hz was the best frequency from his calculations.
But for countries that used metric system set hz cycles to 50hz
So In short -Maths.
... and, a lot of other reasons.

Actually, the US isn't the "odd man out" in this. 120V/60Hz is standard for all of North and Central America, and Japan also runs on 120V/60Hz.

Also, while much of Europe runs on 240/50, the standard for aviation AC power is 120V/60Hz, so why that hasn't been more of a push for the rest of the world to fall in line and save on all those expensive transformers and conditioners to provide jetway power, I don't know.
