That wouldn't work with our dog. Any treats closer than 3 feet (1m) are consumed within 0.0039721 of a second!

I've been thinking more about that, and find it hard to imagine a dog holding food in its mouth while watching the performance.
I have seen animals showing concern for one another, but the toys don't look (or, probably, smell) like a real animal, so I have to be a party-pooper and say that the series was a set up with trained dogs.
