According to Wikipedia, Type 408 Mk1a, had either Merlin or Pegasus engines.

KX was the squadron code for 311Squadron RAF, and they flew Mk1a's and Mk 1c's.

:S
No problem with your identification of KXoM, Den.
You said that EPoR was a MkIA, but I think that we're all agreed that it was a MkII. Sorry Mister.
I did give you a silver award for your entry, but my wording did not make that clear. I have edited the results post today.

I'll ignore your remarks Alan. Ridicule is uncalled for.

Perhaps it's best if I don't even try to give an answer?

Apologies, ridicule was never my intention. The numbers are of course illegible on Mike's photo. Given the 30% losses the squadron sustained in just 19 months in Bomber Command there could well have been more than one aircraft with the same squadron code. Reading between the pixels is always a guessing game so different interpretations are inevitable and all part of the intrigue.

I think you will find that although they were designed to take Merlins, because of the shortage at that time, with fighters being the priority, no Wellington was actually produced with merlin other than the Mark II

And the KX aircraft plainly in the photograph has radials which must be Pegasus

Also the KX code changed users a couple of times as well, just to throw something else in the mix.

All good information, folks.
Strange that the discussion has focussed on the KX example, which Den had correct.
It was EoPR MkII that he identified as a IA.

On the other hand, we have 5 correct hits on 16-02.
I suppose that I should close that one in 24 hours, and post the results tomorrow afternoon.

Well, I thought the name was almost an anagram for a Hollywood actress, with a few letters added and a couple missing........

Apparently she was utterly useless at delivering lines, but no film director ever seemed to notice. Whether she ever wore wellie boots also seems to have never been noticed.
