I came across these two videos, quite different, but which tell basically the same story.

Thanks for posting this, Mike. :thumbsup: I had no idea the US military spent that much money on the Norden bomb sights. :-O

That YouTube channel is good, I've subscribed. The bloke seems to be very knowledgeable and honest.

It's funny how the strategic bombing offensive progressed. The RAF had to resort to area night bombing, while the USAAF was set on a policy of precision daylight bombing. Trouble was, all optical bomb sight rely on being able to see, and the weather over north-west Europe wasn't conducive to that. So, while the RAF got better with radar at night, the USAAF started to fit bombing radars to its B-17s. Both strategies kind of met in the middle

It is said that by late 1944, the RAF was precision bombing area targets, while the USAAF was area bombing precision targets. :)
