Now I am really........................

Post by Nigel H-J »

P%ssed off!!  :wall: :((

I was updating my dash cam manually but the first update failed when the lead came away from the cam itself and would not download the update.

So being a bit brassed orft I went to their site and followed the instructions bit by bit and had to format the drive, so went through that and the update went smoothly and presto, in the settings it showed that the update was successful :welldone:

Then I decided to have a fly in MS2020 until it would not load went to the D: Drive and nearly fell off my chair, MS2020 was not there nor was X-Plane 11!!! Somehow doing the format I must have somehow hit D instead of G: Now I don't know what the hell to do, X-Plane completely gone and it would take me at 15Mbps gawd only knows how many days and the same with MS2020 which last time took five days to download. My internet supplier has so far ignored my e-mails pertaining to slow speeds so might just stop payment to them if I don't hear from them soon or rather I telephone them and wait on the phone for ages as before!!

Now going to have a few cans of lager to drown me sorrows!! :((

Not a good day for you, Nigel. We all have frustrating days with the computer, so sympathies there. Have plenty of lager.

That about sums it all up Joe, I don't even hope for much when I eventually get round to contact them. They even sent me an e-mail stating that my account with them is all set up????????? :dunno: I take this as Ovo have now taken over SSE so more fun and games on the way, I even read that Ovo is in talks with Talk Talk to take over Broadband accounts of customers.

Started downloading MS2020 this morning and gave up, even slower than last time. Think now I am going to take a long break from flight sims even with X-Plane 11 as that will take forever to download all add-ons that I have. Just do not have the patience to spend days installing.

Will contact SSE or rather Ovo mid week as have a number of commitments ahead. Will pop in on occasions but for now will be giving flight sim a rest until we can sort out a get out clause and go for another provider.

Regards
Nigel.

Largely irrelevant rant follows:

I used to work for part of SSE and one thing that truly bugs me is the way that the sale of the domestic supply arm was and still is being handled by the parent organisation.

The domestic supply arm was always a relatively small element of the power generation, transmission and wholesale/domestic energy supply business.

I could bang on at length at the stupidity of the rules set up by the government to nobble existing suppliers, and the sheer insanity of the business model used by so many of the supply companies that have come and gone, leaving all of us to pick up the tab for what was little short of corporate theft.

Martin and his b***** money tips only exacerbated the problem by encouraging customers to move to the new companies. Last count we are all paying about £96 a household to cover the losses of the bankrupt suppliers.

Anyway, once SSE sold the domestic supply arm I expected them to tell Ovo to stop using the SSE name after about a year or so. I wasn't too surprised that what now passes for the press in the UK could not tell the difference between the one arm of SSE and the whole operation - a bit like confusing the Red Arrows with the whole RAF. The fact that Ovo have acted as badly as they have with former SSE customers just annoys me even more.

Rant over.

Anyway my sympathies for dealing with suppliers - power or tinternet. Worldwide I think employers fail to invest in staff training or customer support. I have heard the comment that call centres either make money or support customers - never both.

I recently had some problems with internet supply with NowTV and they were very good at bringing in Openreach, who operate the base network throughout the UK, and then following up to check that the problem was resolved (for now...)

Many thanks for your input regarding SSE/Ovo Allan, we are still having issues namely payment they owe us regarding electricity we put down the grid i,e, solar panels. Before Ovo came and took SSE over we had regular payments for Fits readings every quarter but presently they owe us three payments i.e. nine months worth and still no payments have been made. Now if it was us defaulting they would soon be chasing us or even cutting off our supply. Going to send a final e-mail that should payment not be received for electricity sent then we will be taking legal action for none payment, I'm not afraid of any company that defaults on either payment or standard of work and have in past stood up to car a dealership, national window company, PC World eventually writing to the chairman of Kingfisher Group for a refund of quite a bit of money and others.

My motto is never 'Give in or Give up' as often it is a case of standing your ground and fighting for what you believe in as long as it falls into the 'Sales of Goods Act' or Faulty Workmanship etc' whereby there is a case that can be handed over to Trading Standards if need be.

Rant over!!

Sorry to hear your trials with your Internet Not sure what to suggest I think there's a lot to be said about being with bt At least you are assured of some response. It also seems to be related to where you live and of course distance from the box etc. If you read my post to Paul, I found that the problem with my Internet disconnecting may have been a Windows problem after all. Since doing the suggested tips on the link I posted, it's not dropped out once

Hi Nigel.

I had problems with my cell/data service some time ago..
I made many calls over many months about it.
Then during one call the "customer specialist" said to me.
"You know, (smarmy like) there have been occasions were a service provider will invite a customer to close their account if they don't find the service satisfactory.
...
Something along those lines anyway..

In my mind, I'm thinking... Well, bless your heart you precocious CHILD.. ..... Then took a deep breath as said.

uh No .. you don't get to tell me that, (service providers name) claims to be the best cell service provider in the country, that provides more coverage area at the fastest speeds than any other service provider in the country. But let me ask you, who should I pay for cell service. I mean, if your service provider told you to go elsewhere.. who would you choose.

This is what I heard ----> Dead air ..

..........
After a few seconds passed (too long really) I'm thinking.. disconnect? since a few times during the conversation before "the invite" the connection was cutting in and out and we both were saying I can't understand what you are saying .. -bad connection..
..........

I said, Hello can you hear me ?

Him --> ..Yes

Then I leaned on his conscience a bit.
I said.
You don't get to tell me to cancel my service.
You claim to be the best, you ask me to rate my experience with you , customer service and my cell service. hoping I'll give you 10's -not 1's
, I'm a master electrician I don't wire a building and leave out devices so lights don't turn on or refrigerators don't keep food cold and ice cream frozen. I know some who do, because basically - they don't care about their reputation or the people who relied on them . and I'm sure at some time in your life you met people like that. So I suggest you kick this up the channels to the powers that be and have them give me some of that best service in the country you claim to provide .. thank you for your time but I have to let you go now..

This is him --> Thank you sir.

I said, Now don't forget to send your questionnaire and I'll give a review that won't reflect badly on you.. ahhight? ....

When I turned my phone on the next morning my data connection was working great. Has been since.

Epilogue

There's a reasonable explanation for the sometimes absolute bazaar connection behavior. Like ...just moving (literally) a foot here or there the connection would drop, where- I used to have no problems like that before .... after putting many things together over time.. and invitations to try another new improved plan. I was under the impression they wanted me off an old plan
You see

I'm locked in to an old plan that gives me unlimited data at high speed. I have two phones connected for the price of one and unlimited applies to both.
Using a HDMI cable from my phone to my tv I get
streaming tv, Plus internet and phone for 60.oo per month, no state, federal or county taxes, no PBC commissioners service fee, nothing.
Non contract providers (pay as you go) absorb those.

Anyway..
My tactic ...

"good sense makes one slow to anger and it is glory to overlook the offense.

Not always easy. but sometimes the reward will leave a quirk in your smile. ;)

All the best, mate.

Wow Joe, you certainly had the argument nicely wrapped up there, all my previous challenges were down to taking a big swallow and spending a lot of time researching the problems I was fighting for so when either speaking to the company or writing a letter I could bring up legal arguments that could not be challenged by just fobbing me off with whatever excuses they could think of.

Might consider hiring you Joe!!!
