It's so nice to be insane, nobody asks you to explain.
Re: Vertical Landing
Far too many "pilots" are deploying the ballistic recovery parachute for extremely minor events.
I can't see anything wrong with the aeroplane other than the engine isn't running, that is NOT a situation which needs deployment of the parachute.
Insurance premiums on light aircraft are going silly simply because of folk who unnecessarily destroy the airframe (pulling the parachute will destroy the airframe) when it could be handled properly by a trained pilot!

Old pilots never die, they just run out of runway.

Re: Vertical Landing
I can see if your engine quit and there was no obvious place to land pulling the parachute would be an option. Having said that the street it landed on looked wide and straight enough to attempt a landing. I did not see if there were any power lines running over them that would make such a landing hazardous.
Joe Cusick,

Extract from the flight manual of the cirrus aircraft (I know that one isn't a cirrus)
The emergency parachute should only be used for total and irrecoverable loss of control of the aircraft.
Engine failure is definitely not a just reason for its use.

Re: Vertical Landing
If my understanding is right, the one and only time would be in the event of an uncontrollable spin, by using the parachute it would stabilize the aircraft, once that is done and sufficient height available then the parachute should be released?Extract from the flight manual of the cirrus aircraft (I know that one isn't a cirrus)

Just my thought though another circumstance would be if flying over mountainous regions or forests where no suitable emergency landing could be made without serious injury/damage?
Just my thoughts.
