Now have the engineer from Virgin tomorrow morning then take Babs to Spec Savers and hopefully when I get back will have time to download MS2020.
By the way Nigel, once you get MSFS downloaded and running, don't be alarmed if you sometimes get a message pop up about a slow internet connection, or insufficient bandwidth, or similar. I get it, and I'm on quite a high speed connection. It's a server problem - quite rare, but it does happen from time to time. Nothing to worry about.

To add to what Paul was saying, some people seem to have experienced some issues over the last week or so, again related to the MSFS servers. I suspect it might be related to the upcoming sim update X. But I wont be related to your internet. Hope if all goes well. 👍

I'm late to the party, as usual!

My 2p is to buy SSD and avoid M2. The sim isn't capable of reading data at those kind of rates for it to make a difference (in other words, it won't cause the sim bottleneck when flying). In terms of load times the difference will be negligible (to the point you wouldn't notice it). There are videos posted online which illustrate these points. M2 is more expensive than a SSD, so the latter is better value for money.

For me coveting ever-faster drives is like buying larger RAM whilst ignoring latency and speed :dunno:

The motherboard is also a factor. If it can't handle the faster drive it'll be like putting top-end Pirelle tyres on a Ford Escort :dunno:

Another SSD will be my next drive and I'll be avoiding M2 for a while. Better to spend the price difference on an addon, or buy food for the local food bank.

However, if you're using your PC for other purposes (complex graphics in Photoshop, high resolution renders or movies in Blender etc.) then an M2 is a different proposition altogether (and what they're really designed for)...

Again, just my 2p...

Andy

Thats what I thought too Dale, but when i compared the price of the 970 EVO Plus M.2 with the SSD there was about £15 difference. I was sure it was much more than that when I bought mine, but there you go. 😊

Hi Andy, many thanks for your 2p worth, as previously written I have had an 1TB SSD put in and was told that it is a fast one, so looking forward to downloading MS2020 tomorrow.

The Virgin Engineer (No Puns Paul) :poke: came but found that there was a problem!! I had Virgin Broadband many years ago before coming off internet, since then we had a builder to lay the patio, he cut the cable as it was in the way and pushed the rest of it back to our wall.

The engineer found the remains and called for extra help to repair what was left of it. They all did a fantastic job and by this afternoon I was up and running, just did a speed test again and this is the result, when I uploaded to Imgur it was very very quick.

112 download - that'll do you nicely :agree: Just keep in mind the download speed messages you sometimes get in MSFS, as mentioned above.

Well good news and bad news I'm afraid. The good news is that it took only just over two and a half hours to download which is brilliant.

the bad news is that every time I select a flight with the Cessna and tried various airports the sim crashes to desktop.

Have spent all afternoon looking at this but settings are the same as when I first flew in it a few months ago, all drivers are up to date including NVidia.

So presently grounded!! :(( No idea what is causing this as no changes made to my settings since I last used it.

Any ideas?

I last had MS2020 installed on 'D' Drive but this time it has gone onto G Drive. Would/could there be some ghosting from previous files and would it be best to uninstall it and reinstall on the D Drive as when first installed? Desperate measures I guess but desperate to find out why this has just suddenly happened especially when nothing has changed on my computer settings etc. :dunno:

You say the Cessna - have you tried other aircraft ? Do you have anything in your Community folder from last time ? If so, rename the Community folder to something like Backup Community, and let MSFS rebuild a new empty one when it starts.

Hi Paul, going to re-install MS2020 back onto the original disc which was on the D Drive tomorrow.

After the uninstall I know that there are files relating to MS2020 that still remain on the drive but where I am not sure. These are the files I need to delete if my hunch is correct.

If you are able to give me the locations of where these files reside and what files they are I can at least delete them completely, this in turn will rather be like installing MS2020 for the very first time. I had been through various forums looking to finding an answer but without success. Now another thing occurred and that was after I uninstalled MS2020 I went to my D drive and gawd knows why but there are 2 folders present relating to MS2020 and were not there since I formatted it before re-installing X Plane 11, these are Program Files and WindowsApps which must belong to MS2020. It looks as though on the install even though both folders were next to the MS2020 Folder on G Drive they also duplicated for some stupid reason onto the D Drive!! :dunno: Again, I had re-formatted the D drive before installing X Plane 11 and there were no other files present after completion.

Or else my computer has been possessed!! :hide: If you are able to list where other files/folders are from MS2020 in Apps etc it would help tremendously so I can be sure of a complete clean install. BTW, I had never flown the Cessna before in MS2020.

Regards
Nigel.
