Amsterdam holiday snaps

Post by TobyV »

Mostly posting this here because I know some of you like my photos and also to thank my "local" Amsterdam tourism adviser and resident forum member, Jelle (aka "Archer" who runs the VC10 website).

Due to "Mixed content delivery" problems (my own website where these images are hosted does not have an SSL certificate) these images may not display in Chrome, or browsers using the Chrome engine (such as Edge). In which case, try Firefox.

One step higher. Houses were taxed depending how many steps there were from the door to the pavement. The house on the right has one step more than the one on the left.

I went on a canal tour on a boat similar to this one

Find a true vertical amongst these buildings - apparently the Irish pub is the only thing that isn't p1ssed

Great photos Toby. I used to visit Amsterdam most months when I work at Heineken. Seems like a lifetime ago now. Theres something very European about the original Fiat 500. isn’t there. 👍

Hi Toby :hello:
Great to see more of your excellent camera work ;) , which you humbly describe as "snaps"
Never been there.
Fascinating facades on some of the buildings, with ties holding them back to the roofline.
In the picture of "Singel, next to De Krrijberg church," I first thought that the sign was banning playing chess, but by translating the sign, It's saying that you may not moor there unless you are a waste barge.
I believe that the horned animal at the zoo is a fairly young Ibex. Adult horns dwarf the animal, and how they manage to imitate flies on vertical surfaces is hard to believe.

Really nice pics.

Interesting that when I open the page in Chrome the pictures don't show, but when I open in Safari they do. Not really a problem but strange none the less.

Hi Joe,

Something funny there. They were working for me earlier, but now they aren't. :dunno:

Fabulous pictures Toby, I was there for two nights back in September 2019 for my 70th birthday, my first visit since 1974....not much had changed in the city centre, but the outskirts were unrecognisable :-O

It's so nice to be insane, nobody asks you to explain.
