Not been a good year!

Post by Nigel H-J »

Hope you don't mind me having a bit of a moan but will not be on here as much as I have been for the next few months. Last year Babs had not been feeling well and felt that her blood pressure was more than it should be so no matter how many times she went to the doctor she was just given a blood pressure check, sometimes it showed high and other times not so high but she began to feel as though the doctors were not interested so I bought her a Kinitek blood pressure machine which was rated by the St Johns Ambulance (runs on batteries). Every day for months she took two readings, once in the morning and one in the afternoon, at least every day one of the readings were high at around 187.

She then went to the doctors and showed them her records and only then did they take action by making her an appointment with a specialist at the hospital. I will at this point state that Babs is not overweight and is only eight and a half stone. Cutting a long story short (much to your relief) after having an MSI of her brain it was found that she had had a slight stroke some time ago. She is receiving medication bit still continues monitoring her blood pressure.

One neighbour who lived up the road from us also kept going to the doctors with the same problem, they did nothing really saying that her readings were OK, same as Babs, she died after suffering a sever stroke!!

If you or your wife suspects that either one of you are having high blood pressure then I would urge you all to purchase a blood pressure machine (not expensive) and keep a record of the readings and present to your doctor, don't just accept being fobbed off.

Now it is my turn! :wall: Last year I felt two lumps in the side of my left jaw so went to the doctor, same practice as my wife. When I told him he just looked at me and said and I quote.
“What do you want me to do about it?”
I sat there unable to answer, I was so taken aback by his response. He looked at me and told me to go the the dentist. So off I went to the dentist who took an X-ray then made me an appointment for an X-Ray at the hospital. Long story cut short!! I was then seen at the Maxi-facial Dept. and was in extremely good hands as Babs used to work there as secretary so they all knew her and I underwent a biopsy and took out a small part of the growths, I still have numbness on part of my face from it. Fortunately they are benign tumours but one big problem is that I have an impacted Wisdom Tooth in the jaw bone and it produced these benign tumours which have so far eaten away my jaw bone leaving a large hole. They are going to operate but because I have heart disease and suffered three heart attacks in the past with a stent being fitted on the last one, I had to go to see a specialist in anaesthetics who would then decide if I can be anaesthetized for the operation. He found out that after asking certain questions in a STOPBANG score I possibly have a high risk of moderate to severe risk of sleep apnoea where, when asleep, my breathing stops, (wondered why sometimes I wake up suddenly) :-O so I now have to undergo further tests to see what the risks are.

Now still waiting but my consultant who will operate wants me in without too much delay as there is a risk of my jaw shattering so I had been told very sternly by him.........not to fall down  !! Guess being in my seventies there must be a high risk of doing that then. After the growths are taken out then they will be able to do a more in-depth biopsy to find out what the tumours are. Also I won't be able to eat any solid foods for maybe a month afterwards so Babs has bought some plastic bottle feeders!!

Anyway chaps, this is the reason why I will not be on the forum as some-days I don't feel up to doing much.

Regards
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,
So sorry to hear of your troubles.
I had precisely the same response from a mower repair shop.
I replied that he could either tie a ribbon round it and leave it in the middle of the highway, or, preferably do what his sign said, and repair it
I hope that your surgery gets you on the right road again.
Take it easy, and please let us know progress when you're up to it.
Best wishes.

Thanks a lot, will keep updating after I am admitted, thankfully it will be day surgery but Babs seems to think they may have to keep me in overnight.

Nigel.

I hope they get you sorted out Nigel and back up and running well as soon as possible. My brother lives in Lincoln and he also has had some significant health challenges recently (is it a Lincoln thing). I visited him recently (staying at Hartsholme camping site); our first trip to Lincoln in a while - it's changed a bit!

All the best for a successful outcome, and that you both stay in good health afterwards.
