Another Problem

Post by Nigel H-J »

Started computer this afternoon and found it took some time to boot up even though it is on a M.2 then tried to start MS2020 and it crashed, froze up.

When it did fire up I put all settings on low, but every time it loaded and I got into the cockpit the switches would not move then MS crashed.

I am getting very frustrated over this and had a look on the web:
You may encounter the "games crashing after installing new RAM" issue for different reasons. The common ones include incorrect RAM installation, outdated chipset driver, outdated BIOS, low-performance power plan, or bad RAM
My original RAM from purchase was 2X16Gb Corsair Vengence LPX DDR4 3000

The above were replaced with 64Gb Verbatim USB Flash Drive.

Could this be the problem or does my BIOS need updating?

Any thoughts?

Regards
Nigel.

Hi Nigel, always keep your bios up to date as a rule of thumb.

However, not sure what you mean by the memory comment. You cant replace motherboard memory with a usb flash drive. 🤔

Morning mate,

Unless the replacement RAM was exactly the same type in terms of model it'll probably have different speeds, timings etc.
It's possible the motherboard is trying to run the new RAM at the old RAMs settings unless the BIOS was reset or updated.

Updating the BIOS will be good anyway but you need to go into it and find a setting called XMP Profile and change it to what I imagine will say Profile 1.
That will change the RAM speed, timings etc to the optimal settings the sticks were designed to run at.

Even when purchasing something like 3000Mhz RAM, you'll find it'll more than likely run at something like 2666Mhz until the XMP Profile has been set.

Nigel, just saw this, not sure if it applies to you..,
We’re aware of user reports of sim crashes on PC experienced by Navigraph users following the installation of Aircraft & Avionics Update 3.

While all teams involved investigate, a user-submitted workaround is available by disabling the AIRAC Cycle 2409 rev.1 package within the Navigraph Hub app.

UPDATE 2024-10 @ 0350 UTC: As an alternative to disabling the AIRAC Cycle 2409 package in Navigraph, a different workaround is to uninstall the “Bush Trip - Scotland” package from World Update 17: United Kingdom and Ireland. This will allow you to continue using Navigraph along with AAU3. Thanks to forum user @RookieOneqc who discovered this workaround.

At the shop the guy had replaced my RAM Corsair whatsits for the ones they sell. Still the computer, as written earlier crashed.

By this time I had lost all confidence thinking that whatever is done, nothing is working. :( This morning I decided to take the computer back down and he was as much perplexed as I was as to the reason why the RAM was failing, I just asked him if he would take out the new RAM and put my old RAM back in and I will have to think about what to do next.

Give them their due and fortunately, my old RAM was still in the bin so with a full refund and a shake of the hand I came home then without a thought I took out the Corsair RAM, got a blower I use to clean the inside of the computer every six months then blasted it into the slots as well as all over the RAM, put them back fired up the computer.............Nowt, Zilch,.... then I wondered if I put them in wrong so swapped them over into opposite sides and Bingo!! Hit the jackpot!! Then tried the Mem Test that was left in my download folder and all was good!!

MS2024 Here we come!!

Again, many thanks for all your suggestions it gave me hope!!

BTW, how do I update my bleedin BIOS!! :hide:

Regards
Nigel.

The manufacturer of your MoBo should have any updated files and clear instructions on how to upgrade it. These days it's often just a case of click on a file and let it do it's thing. With my rig my MoBo control software checks for updates automatically when I start the box in a morning and if it finds anything it asks if I want to apply the update, I say 'yes' and it installs in the background and in most cases doesn't even require a reboot.
