Eddie, the car can be replaced.........the body can't.
Anyway, he doesn't deserve to be in charge of supermarket trolley after that.
How about a lifetime ban being brought in for gross misconduct when driving?

Hi Steve,

Absolutely mate. People come first in every instance. :tuttut:

I was just referring to the rare Merc SLR (only cos I'm a car nut). Don't get me wrong the injuries sustained are tragic and like you say cars are only pieces of replaceable metal. Nothing more :-#

Lifetime bans are rare these days unfortunately.

Looks like Mr Hamed isn't quite a featherweight as he used to be either...

Serves him right. Never did like him, and sporting success is no excuse for being a complete twat...

It makes me so sad when I hear of motorists whose driving is so deliberately reckless, incompetent and dangerous (and they know it too), getting off with such light sentences. And then I look at all the people who have been punished so much harder for so much less - some of the poor pilots who have lost their livelihood after years of loyal and dedicated service for just one inevitable human mistake, or worse still, those who have been made scapegoats for managerial and governmental negligence and even imprisoned in some cases. Or what about the train driver who inadvertently passed through a red light at Purley, the only driving error he had ever made in an entire career of service to the railway, and crashed into another train, and was imprisoned. :crying: Where's the justice?

No doubt someone will argue that in this case Mr. Hamed didn't deserve a harsher punishment as no-one was killed but I firmly believe that the outcome of any action is irrelevant when deciding how serious the action was because events beyond human control can turn an innocent action into a dangerous one and a dangerous one into an innocent one. The man who makes an innocent mistake and (by sheer misfortune) kills a hundred people is still innocent, the man who deliberately endangers or tries to kill a hundred but (again by fortune) ends up killing nobody is still guilty.

So in the case of Mr Hamed, he deserves to go to prison because his actions were deserving of such a punishment, regardless of the fact that amazingly no-one was killed, but in the case of the train driver above, he didn't because he merely made a mistake that every human being is capable of doing and by a cruel chance it ended up killing a number of people. Everyone alive on this planet has made such a mistake, but most people are fortunate that they get away with it - just because he didn't doesn't make him more guilty than everyone else. In that regard his only crime that the rest of humanity doesn't share with him was bad luck.

Same goes for far too many other examples to mention - today's society stupidly judges actions by their outcomes, using hindsight, and this often results in the innocent being punished while the guilty walk free.

At least he'll be busy boxing around the shower room now, trying to protect his own ring.

I am a fan of powerful cars, but the only place for them de limited is on a race track. Its is also a very rewarding experience. I am no angel, but there is a time and a place and this most certainly wasn't it.

It is not important wether you are the best driver in the world or not, there are other people to contend with. If you want to use your performance car properly, get down to your local track and join one of the many well run and well organised clubs up and down the country. Motorsport IS great fun. Driving fast IS fantastic... Just NOT on public roads.

I agree with those who think this was an inadequate sentence. Unfortunately, as the Judge observed, the maximum permitted sentence is inadequate. It is 2 years, and after giving the necessary discount for a plea of guilty, the practical maximum is 16 months which is effectively what he got. These ridiculously light sentences result from a badly misdrafted statute
