ATL-98 Carvair FS2004 .cfg Update

Post by Jonbouy »

ATL-98 Carvair FS2004 Aircraft.cfg Update.

This is a direct replacement of the original aircraft.cfg file included in ATL-98 Carvair V1.0 FS9 Version (jwat98.zip). Addresses reported issues with the autopilot, radios and hydraulics when using the aircraft with certain add-on panels, now references the correct knee-board ref. file and corrects some errors in the aircraft descriptions which crept into the initial release version.

Thanks to Glenn Reed and Maarten Brouwer for bringing these issues to my attention.

FS2004 Flight dynamics for the ATL-98 Carvair
Original DC-4 FDE and Carvair specific amendments by FSAviator used with kind permission.
*******************************************
The Carvair was essentially a cosmetically altered DC-4/C-54 Airframe. Use these flight dynamics to simulate the early service Carvairs.

[fuel]
//Some Carvairs retained all eight wing tanks, but most retained only six so that typical capacity was about 2870
//USG after conversion (down from 3600) which is a reduction of just under 4400 lbs below standard DC-4.

//WARNING: fuel should be reduced by *8000* pounds when operating short haul flights since the aircraft must
//arrive with the weight below 64170. Max take off weight for cross channel operations from Lydd for example was only
//65,000lbs because the landing runway in France was only 44 miles away.
//See relevant warning in the enclosed reference notes :- 72900 - 8000 = 64900

Although there were only 74 DC-4s all with identical airframes they were delivered with four different types of engine and three other engines have been used since. The R-2000-11M2 is typical of the early installations and is used as the default. However since the DC-4 was unpressurised some original customers and many (probably most) later users saw no reason to maintain two speed superchargers. They fitted engines such as the R-2000-D5 with no high speed blower, but with a more powerful low speed blower giving 1200hp up to 7000 feet.

This example P&W R-2000-7M2 rated 1450hp for take off. METO rated 1200hp at 5700 feet
