Hi Pierre
On the theme that Dave is onto........there are the YS-11 sounds that may work better in your case.
I don't recall any problems with those.

Nearly all the crashes due to sounds are very specifically Audigy 2 ZS.
The couple of others I've heard about have been some kind of Audigy 4.
I have a Creative Audigy (older version 1) and have always been happy with it.
From what I could make out, the problem with the 2 ZS is either linked to surround sound or more likely EAX.
Howls & screeches sounds very much like feedback. I reckon it's some kind of repeating pattern that builds up and overloads the system. Possibly some duff code in the EAX effects?
Whatever it is, it seems that some sounds just hit the spot.
It is certainly a fault in the card itself or the driver software.
You could see if switching off EAX or surround sound stops it happening.

Thanks for your continuing help and interest. My 748 is now running with an Antonov An-24 soundset, which is the Ivchenko AI-24 turboprop engines. Perhaps a little too heavy for the 748. I tried editing the original 748 external sound files using the Audigy Wave Studio but was able to only reduce the volume. That didn't work. I knew what I really needed to do was to degrade the sound quality. Well, there you are, I'll try the YS-11 sounds when I succeed in locating them! Regards
