Also Lockheed was a small manufacturer (relatively)........too small to take on the massive RAF order.....but they did......expanded and pulled it off becoming big boy overnight.

I know they used Croydon as I've got shots of their aircraft there. Can't remember if this was their 'base' though

Hi Dave

As far as I know British Airways was Croydon based.

It was them merged into Imperial and others that formed BOAC.

Looked quickly at that shot and never noticed the hangar!!

There does appear to be rather more differences than just a turret. The Lodestar doesn't have windows in the nose either. Wander if he'd mind filling those in too??

The nose windows were a part of the mod to the Hudson but it's not a structural mod of much consequence.

There were Minor difference with engines and exhaust as well.

There was an article some time back on how to covert the Airfix Hudson into that very aircraft (G-AFGN)

Yup..

Thing is, when modellers spend a lot of time cutting windows out.. they're not usually keen on filling them back in again  Wouldn't be so bad if they were painted on but that doesn't appear to be the case. You never know though.. he might be a good egg and already have the Civvie model in waiting

Do I sense a Croydon - Berlin and back route in CBFSVAs future Dave

I know its not British but its certainly Historically important to the UK

Leif

(Both the Military and Civilian versions)

and - correct me if Im wrong wasnt there a ventral gun position as well on the Hudson or am I thinking of the Ventura?

The photos I saw of the aircraft being taken to Canada APPEAR to have solid noses - But Im sure that could have been deception as well
