Glad to have that cleared up. I have never seen WW2 photos of civil acft on internal services and I thought that all RAS pre-war acft had been requisitioned for training and comms duties. I think that RAS used to run Rapides pre-WW2.

RAS ran a multitude of aircraft before and during the war of which DH89's played a large part but included DH84 Dragon IIs, the DH86 and finally, the Avro XIX and C-47. They were scheduled to have Vikings too but Vikings never flew in RAS colours

In case you are puzelled :think:

They did use Westland Wessex............a small three engined airliner of the thirties not the helicopter that re used the name

Strictly speaking.. I think it's safe to say that the Wessex wasn't a RAS aircraft, it belonged to the 5th partner.. Imperial Airways. DH86 G-ACVY was damaged by turbulence on a flight from Belfast to Manchester and thus was replaced on the southbound service by G-ACPL. However, this had caused an interruption in the northbound flights so Imperial blew the dust off Wessex AAGW and painted Railway Air Services on the nose. It was used on that instance and perhaps a few others but was not a scheduled RAS aircraft ;-)

I especially like the white and silver one.

Which DC-3 would this be for, if it gets released might have to fly in this paint scheme!

So why is it called a Westland wessex then ( The Chopper Verison) They could at least call it The Westland Wessex 2 :roll:
