Not necessaryily stay away from them Tony, but make it clear how to use them to extract to a temp location and manually add them aswell.... you can use them as a sexy form of winzip.
.... Worrying that I find installers sexy isn't it.

Totally agree with all the sentiments on 'things going in unseen'
Although, with aircraft particularly, I would always have backups of relevent folders to save too much hassle - and on the subject of development of A/C - if there was a readme with the details included, I would trust that (well if it was from a member of this forum's work) ;-)
I don't see too much problem - of course whenever *anyone* says that we all know what happens
Overall, I would rather use a self-installer (laziness) - but I would prefer to do it the hard way than use Winzip (a program I have never liked for some reason)
Best of all would be to get someone else to do it all
