OK, so the 8800 GTS is the best card to run FSX on. But does anyone run FSX successfully on any other (lower specced) cards?

And if there is an alternative, what RAM and processor to use with it?

I know this subject is done to death everywhere, but I cannot see the wood for the trees.

RE Processor, Multi Core Intel... the current AMD's are not in the same league. If your running 32bit OS (either XP or Vista) you can't address any more than 4GB, but as the app (FSX or FS9) is only a 32bit app it cannot use any more than a max of 2GB. So in theory 2GB + should be fine. If you go for 4GB, FS (9 or X) will have access to the full 2GB will the rest of the odds and sods (OS, AV and any other processes) can use the remaining 2GB.

Yeah i just made that mistake.......Memory is so cheap at the moment that i just bought 4 Gb of corsair Ram and a new motherboard and windows Vista to cheer myself up....

Vista only recognises 3.25gb of ram even though my MoBo can take upto 8Gb because its a 32bit OS....DOH.....!

LOL 'fraid mines straight off the peg at PC-World, however, when something does go wrong fortunately I am always game for a good old row, PC-World have never let me down yet, they are always raring to go, hammers and tongs.

My other 2 are Dells, had absolutely the BEST and absolutely the WORST customer service from them, if you fall into the unlucky 1% you will end up with a head full of grey hairs and a nervous tick.

It's funny how customer support can either be the best or worst. My brother and his other half ordered PC's of the same spec on the same day from MESH, they took delivery at the same time and use them for the same thing. Now my brothers PC has turned out to be a piece of crap that is falling apart at the seams, nothing works, and it was clearly put together by the office junior on a lazy Friday afternoon. It's been back to MESH twice and still has faulty components in, and they keep giving him (a technophobe) the runaround on the phone and offering helpful advice like "wiggle the RAM around a bit". He's out of pocket almost £50 for calling the support line to get RMA numbers to return it, and he's having to fork out delivery himself because they are refusing to collect it. Now his other half had one problem with the PC, MESH collected it, fixed it and returned it within three days at no extra cost and the PC has been purring like a kitten ever since. The same goes for Dabs, for years I've heard great things about them but I had a large number of terrible experiences with their customer support and swore I'd never shop there again.

I was another fool that bought from this lousy company that do not tell the truth and also give the worst service I have ever had, I wont go into detail just to say when it failed under warranty I contacted the company who made the mo board and they supplied FOC the part which I fitted myself....I would put pins in my eyes before dealiong with that shower of :fart: again!!!
