Classic British Flight Sim

I respect anybody's work because I couldn't do as well, but sadly this chap does not respect that of others.

As with his November 2006 release, he is using gauges of mine that were released with the following notes in the readme:

They are not for use or distribution with other panels or models. I shall shortly be
releasing a separate file of similar gauges for general use and distribution.

There was a good reason for this, the files contained items of others' work for which I alone had permission to distribute.

I did indeed release those alternative files, and at that time I wrote and gave him the names of those alternative files but he has not acted upon that. I have done the same again today over this new release. [EDIT: the email address he gives in the readme file is a fake so writing is a waste of time]

I don't care whether the model is good or bad, British or foreign, high or low poly - I would help this guy if I could but he seems closed to communication. It seems a great shame if all the work he has done on the model is consigned to the great waste-bin in the sky to never be seen again.

I suspect this latest Heron is the Prinair one he still has in Flightsim.com, thought I had seen it before it's a Dee Waldron AI model.

Dee's readme is still in it but he has no mention in the download description so it seems non of it except a texture is the work of this worthy gentleman.

This model was built with FSDS version 2.24, as a full flying model and an AI model in FS2002 and FS2004. It's simple, low polygon design make it ideal for AI traffic use.

A little bit about the Heron...
The deHavilland Heron was launched in 1950 as the replacement for the four engine DH86 biplane. It made use of a large number of components from the smaller two engine DH104 Dove, but was given four engines and seats for 14 passengers. The original Series 1B aircraft used Gipsy Queen 30 engines and had fixed undercarriage. The later Series 2B were given retractable undercarriage. A large number of Herons were re-engined with larger Avco Lycoming IO-540 engines and designated as Series 2D.

This is another one of my "community project" models.
This model is currently in development and I'll make more updates to it as I get reports from people who use it.
The textures are basic masters, 256 color (8-bit), 1024x1024 bitmap. Chrome reflections, and lightmap for night lighting are activated (except the hi-speed prop texture). User is welcome to repaint the model in any livery(s) desired. Uploads of repainted models are also welcome. No prior permission is required.
The included high-speed prop texture is an 8-bit transpanency. If you want to modify the high-speed prop texture, don't forget to add a transparent alpha channel when you're finished. If you don't know how to modify prop textures, don't! Leave it as it is. The lightmap texture (_L) included with this archive is a simple placeholder file. User must build their own lightmap files for end use.

Installation
Unzip the archive directly into your flight simulator's Aircraft folder. It will automatically be setup as a regular, flyable model. To include the model in your ATC traffic, you need to use utilities such as Lee Swordy's "Traffic Tools". This is a freeware utility available at most major flight sim websites.

No - to be fair it is a new model (with interior seating etc and ground equipment) although I don't think there are any repaints there that aren't straight copies of existing paint jobs others have done for the Dee Waldron model other than his main interest of Prinair examples and a bare-metal prototype.

John, it is still up on Avsim, downloading it to compare with the Dee Waldron version, do'nt think this worthy or his partner have ever produced a model before that I can remember

John there is enough in this latest offering to convince me it is the origional Dee waldron model with some jiggery pokering going on, unzipped it comes out as 3 zips 1 gauges and 2 versions of the Heron with the different engines, one has 7 models in it for reasons best known to him as only 1 is called for in the aircraft.cfg,
and the other has 3, again only 1 called for but 1 of those has about 15 to 20 renamed mdl files in it, the ground chocks etc as far as I can see were in the Dee waldron version.

This is from his current readme and except for a few missing words ie Ai is the same as the same bit in Dee's

If you really want this rubbish, be quick as I have just contacted the library guys at Avsim with a request to pull the file.

I suggest that you wait a while for the real thing, already in development from Mr.P ;-)

My major gripe with this is that my Dove textures have been edited and used without my knowledge and certainly without my permission, likewise the Dove panel.bmp has been..how to put this?.....trashed? :@

I would assume, after looking through the folders, that other authors' work has been treated in the same cavalier fashion.

I have not had a response from 'Capt' Marrero.

Cheers Rich, I don't know enough about models to know how they can be modified but I deduced it was a different one for a number of reasons - not only the windows, interior and accessories but the textures consist of a huge range of files whereas the Dee Waldron Heron uses just the one (plus lightmap and HS props).

As some may know I developed a small series of Herons (with help from others!) based on Dee's model which can be flown or used as AI and I can say categorically that there were no wheel chocks or nick-nacks of that sort on that model. It doesn't even have windows, never mind seats!

However, I do remember the 2E model that this chap released just over a year ago, and that had the correct different-shaped engines. I've never seen these on any other model. That one also had a large range of model files for no evident reason. So my gut feeling is that this fellah has developed a new model 2B, copied some paint jobs and tacked on a panel made of stolen parts. Unnecessary, really, as he could just release the model in his Prinair colours and let others paint it and let the user decide which of the available panels to use.

Another interesting point - the crowd of people waiting to board are Rwy12 textures by Geoff Williams.

I didn't think models could be decompiled to get modified like this....well if they could it would be an expensive piece of kit and I doubt they would have it or could use it

Yet it does have the look of the Dee Waldron model

All the texture files seem to contain various bitmaps which they appear to have mapped from some I know are used without permission.

Despite the politeness shown by John I feel they deserve no respect and I hope everything they produce gets binned and anything they try to do the the community ensures that they have wasted their time.

They did this before...........they make themseleves unreachable with false email then do it again...........so they are sticking their fingers up.
