I read several times of sitting in the back of long DC 8's and clearly being able to see the fuse twisting and flexing

The Brit - at least IAS's 300 freighters did something similar in cruise they would set up this rather pleasent (to me) rotation in the back of the aircraft - laying on the bunk in the back looking throught the little ex blue room window you could fix on a specific star at night and watch it gently trace a sort of an oval

I had the pleasure (?) of flying into Gatport Airwick from Hong Kong on the morning of the 'hurricane' that we never had in 1987. For a 747 to bounce around the sky like it did there must have been incredible winds and the wings were literally flapping up and down.
From what I remember we were the last aircraft to land at Gatwick before the airport was closed due to the weather. Anyway, it was an experience that has stuck with me ever since and to this day I am amazed at the punishment the aircraft put up with as we battled against the wind to get home that day.
