E-gads Don. The forum seems to have ground to a halt and I'm losing the will to access!!
There's as real as it gets then there's FSX
I've pulled the Glazing.bmp file apart and changed the opacity of the scratches. There's still room to manoeuvre.. I may get rid of the glazing altogether

Will post the replacement here for you when I've finished fiddling ;-)
Edit..
Here you go Don.. try
THIS
It's not as good for me as having none there at all but it's better than the original ;-)

Hi Don..
A pleasure to have another ex-RN chap aboard
The original texture is DXT3 which you can't view unless you use something like DXTBmp.. a lovely little freeware texture convertor. So.. I opened up the file in DXTBmp, converted it to 24-bit colour, opened it up in Photoshop, saved it as a psd file, duplicated the original texture as a new layer, deselected the old layer then reduced the opacity of the duplicate. Then, this file was saved as a .bmp file in 24-bit. I then opened the original file in DXTBmp and sent the alpha channel to Photoshop where it was saved as it was (trans.bmp). Finally, the new Glazing.bmp file was opened in DXTBmp.. the newly saved alpha channel (trans.bmp) called in and the lot saved as Glazing.bmp in DXT3 format ;-) Well.. you DID ask
Glass is a bit of an unknown quantity to me.. especially how it reacts in the dreaded FSX so no one was more surprised than me when it appeared to work

The important thing is you're up and running
The original texture looks like it's been taken off a scrap lying on a workshop floor and the scratches were far to wide and pronounced. No way would any aircraft outside a junk yard have glass like that.. let alone a fighter bomber where the whole concept is to be able to see something and either shoot it down or bomb the cr@p out of it

David,
That description of the procedure has done me.
There must be a correction file somewhere.
Yours has the resolution and has done it well.
I thank you again as I would not have been able to fathom this one.
This old 'Rinckly' Crinckly' is thankful

I don't have it myself, but I'm sure I read that you have to re-download a later version (the original being 'broken' by SP2).

Thanks James ;-)
I don't know when Don downloaded his version or what his version is. Don't think I've flown mine since SP2 and truth to tell, that little exercise this morning is the first time I've hit the FSX button in a long time. Anyway.. Don is sorted and it was a useful exercise for me.. also a graphic reminder of why I still don't use FSX ;-)

Well it works a treat in FS9, Dave! You are indeed a star!
At last I can see out properly and it even feels that the VC is running a tad smoother? Will this mod work for any other AS aircraft that use the common .bmp file?

Hi Trev
TBH.. I've not tried it in FS9.. I currently have 'all' my Alpha models unloaded

Any odd bits like this may well effect the overall performance as they give the system more work to do seeing through the crazed bits so if there's one in particular you think may be slowing you down (and assuming I have the same model).. give me a shout and I'll take a look for you ;-)

Hi Dave, this looks like a common texture bmp file for several AS aircraft. I have tried it out on several and it is like getting a better Crew Chief or FLM (if you are my vintage) on your aircraft, you can see out much better!!!

Hello Mate..
Well.. it can't be solely an FSX SP2 issue then by the sound of things.. just that FSX made it worse! Glad it's given you a bit more umph in FS9 as the Sea Venom is a fair degree more hungry for resources than say the Vampire (on my system anyway) ;-) Maybe I can become an FS Glazer in my spare time!
