Hi Rob, yep as far as I know. I think there are ways round it, but they involve creating a runway model and applying your own textures. The trouble is doing it that way, it would be a bugger to get it to work on most computers with addon scenery as it would require quite a bit of individual tweeking depending on what other addons you have. :)

HI

Please understand that this is only my personal opinion and not the opinion of anyone else or any other website.

I can't understand how this can be classed as payware quality. I'm sure the guys who constructed it have worked hard etc, but paying for scenery, that in my opinion is low quality just doesn't compute. How can charging be justified? I've seen some of the other scotflight scenery it it looks far superior than this.

I build scenery to the highest quality for free (My RAF Leuchars for example) but it always seems that payware will always take a front row and users will buy it no matter how it looks simply because paying for it means somehow your getting something thats better.

I would have no problem paying for scenery if the standards where raised but it never is. My (of course bias opinion :) ) is that my RAF scenery is currently the most accurate available and when its free (ok you may have to wait a bit longer for it to be release) I cant understand why people pay?

My view into my scenery design is to build the most accurate, for free airfields, so the end user doesn't have to pay for anything. But it seems no matter how good something is users will always pay??

To payware scenery designers out there come on raise the bar!!!make me want to buy your scenery. When your using the same design tools as I am it should be much better.

I'll leave with my saying 'just because you pay for something doesn't mean it will be any better than something thats free'

I'm sorry to anyone I might offended with my above comments, but thats my feeling on payware scenery at the moment.

stevo my reply to you is as follows...

Firstly, which other sceneries both payware and freeware cover these three RAF bases in scotland? I know theres RAF Leachars at AS but thats it as far as im aware of...

Secondly, current freeware releases are not worth downloading due to inconpatibility with SP2/accel...

Thirdly, its only £14 ish...

Hi Steveo,

For me its very simple. It works in FSX. I think its pretty good, I give you not up to the standard of the screenies I've seen for some of your stuff. I haven't tried your Leuchars, but the detail on the UKMIL [EDIT] Coningsby while great when stationary ground my FSX to a halt. This isn't a crisism of your work at all, more simply that FSX doesn't like scenery thats ported from FS9. Proper FSX scenery with DDS textures etc has a much lower frame impact on FSX.

So I have the choice of default, or £15 for 3 airfields that I like to use, so I spent the £15. On another month I maybe wouldn't, but this month I had the cash so I bought it. Simple as that. :)

Thanks for your replies

As a scenery designer and knowing exactly what it takes to build a scenery and what it entails, it just breaks my heart to see people spending money on low quality scenery, not only the scenery in this thread but many other payware I've seen are far below par in my opinion.

Of course its everyones own choice as to what they spend their money on, but for me and the time I spend on making good quality scenery for free, I just end up thinking 'well if users are happy buying this type of scenery then why do I bother?'

The reason I started doing RAF Airfields was because I was so disappointed with the old UK2000 scenery which was far to generic, Don't get me wrong though, Gary summons has done a great job doing all the airfields in the country and all respect to to him, but I feel its quality rather than quantity. It doesnt matter if its 1 airfield or 50 or if the scenery is £1 or £100 their should still be some sort of high quality there.

Leuchars is currently being converted to true FSX code and DDS Textures and will be sp2/accel compatible, only a few weeks from release, my next Scenery Coltishall will be available for both FS9 and FSX and will look even better than Leuchars.

regards

Looking forward to it Stevo. Scenery is a funny one. I understand what you mean about the level of detail that you go into, and coningsby is a brilliant example (albeit not on my PC). Gary's stuff is a good mix in my view. If you just want to brighten the place up with stuff thats much better than the default, but not very detailed, then his volumes of airports are great. If there is one that you want in high detail, then you can buy the extreme airport. Unfortunately there hasn't been the level of detail in the extreem series available for military airfields.

There are only a few airfields that for me, I would like to see a very high level of detail at, the rest I'm happy with parking and taxiways in the right place and approximate buildings, but thats only because I will rarely fly into them, they are usually only used for AI (and thats another can of worms in FSX)

As a Yorkie, I always go for the best Yorkshire price - free - especially when the airfields are of such a high quality as yours Steve. Please do not get disheartened, I for one will always use yours.

I am not knocking anybody as I am well aware of the time and work expended on scenery.

At the end of the day, I suppose it all boils down to personal choice, but I know where I will be hanging my cap. It will take something really out of the ordinary for me to lure me away from Stevo's work.

Both of them look very nice, and the Leuchars is certainly tempting, but I wil also have to stick with the free version, it looks almost the same and since my steam powered computer doesn't like fsx, as long as its fs9 compatible, it'll do me.

Thanks for the HU, If I ever get the cash together for a faster system and get something decent out of FSX I may well purchase this.

Everytime I see anything FS related to Leuchars it reminds me of a wonderfull week spent there in the blazing summer of 2000. One of the best weeks of my life.
