Thanks for clarifying, Dan. I think somebody (Skippy?) here said recently that 9 Dragons definitely doesn't work in FSX with water textures on the ground and vice versa.

Oh God - please don't post pictures like that. It will make me try and download all sorts of stuff, and I can barely manage to install with the odd additional aircraft here and there :D

I'll try the CalClassic route over the weekend and hope it works in FSX. Looking at the website, I see there are lots of files - AI File One, AI File Two and so on. Do you need to download them all or just the one that refers to Kai Tak (AI File Six) ??

I did indeed try 9 Dragons in FSX, the mesh seemed to work fine however the texture weren't aligned properly, some were blank grey squares, some land textures were on the water etc. I don't know a lot about scenery design however from installing it I'd say the folder structure has changed slightly, and some default texture names may have changed (they weren't there to be overwritten for starters). If anyone can figure a way around that I'd be delighted although I suspect it's something the developers would be best placed to do.
As for Jim Vile's scenery it's certainly good enough for me and I didn't have any problems installing the AI so I can't say why it isn't showing for Grace, it even de-conflicts with Chek Lap Kok's

I don't have a problem so far, as I haven't downloaded it yet. Watch this space though!

There is a very good follow-me guidance over at CalClassic, no need to repeat it here, for installing their AI.

Mind you that when you install FS9 traffic files, you will more than likely loose your FSX traffic.

But there are several converting tools around to convert FS9-traffic files to FSX-traffic files...

But first things first....

Btw:

Dan - I know Retro AI do flightplans, but where do you find the 70s AI aircraft?

Ian :dunno:

EDIT: To be more specific. I know about the CalClassics AI, I'm asking about the a/c referenced in the 70s Retro AI flight plans :)

I use CalClassic for my specific 50-60 AI-environment.

The RetroAI 70-ies AI-traffic is flightplans from RetroAI, and the models/repaints is a looooong laborious seek on avsim/flightsim/ all-kind-of-sim ... and Google... took me 'round 2 month's to get a complete collection!

Now I've backed it all up, because I don't want to go through that again!

I've even installed in a way that I can very easily switch between CalClassic/RetroAI .... ;-)

So I'm a happy bunny!

Thanks, Dan. I had a feeling that Retro AI might require the dedication of a nun. So, not for me then

Although I'd prefer to be surrounded by 70s jets, I've grown to love the WoAI modern stuff as it's so realistic and easy and there's so much of it. At least I've got a few Maltby AI VC10s flying into KaiTak on my own flight plans. Thanks very much for the info and well done for your patience in getting your AI to be authentic! You put me to shame :-(

Ian :)

Hi Dan,

Looking nice - glad it's working for you. What version of FSX are you running? (RTM, SP1, SP2).
