I run FS9 in full screen on one monitor (my laptop) and traffic tools explorer in a window on the second which doesn't actually answer any of your questions. But, interestingly:

I was doing a google only this morning about dual monitors for a friend and stumbled across these two interesting youTube videos. The first is Phil Taylor of the FSX development team talking us through a demo of FSX using all 8 cores of an experimental Intel machine. When asked how far FSX could be usefully extended, he says 256 cores!!! Sounds like a lot of life left in it yet

This one is a demo of FS using 8 monitors - presumably FS9.

Tks Ian.. we've already been treated to this BLX

Dual Monitor setup in FS9 is a doddle.. plain and simple. Doesn't matter if you're fullscreen or windowed.. the sim remembers your settings and restarts accordingly.

Before this turns into something it shouldn't be.. let me say now that I really like some of the new bits of FSX but dispair that a lot of FS9's functionality has been left out. It'd have been an easier pill to swallow had M$ not gone to the time and trouble of releasing a pretty huge questionaire to ask what we.. the end user want before releasing something that bore no resemblance to what I required  I know that sounds like so much poop but you get where I'm coming from

LARGE PASSAGE DELETED (by me) AUTORANT now switched off AGAIN!

Well, guys - with all advice etc, I have thus far never been able to run FS9 on my two monitors.

FSX, on the other hand, runs sweet as a nut. Maximised window on main screen - required gauges or panels dragged onto screen 2.

I do wish people would stop carping on with the FS9/FSX thing, though.

If you like FS9 - that's fine - stick with it.

If (like me) you think FSX is the way forward and knocks ten bells out of anything FS9 can throw up (insinuation fully intentional) - then get on with that. ;-)

And leave the rest of us in peace...

I don't think Dave was 'carping on' about the FS9/FSX thing. He was merely stating that some of the good bits of FS9 were not carried over into FSX despite consultation with members of the community. I think all of us who have tried FSX appreciate that it is the way forward and has many benefits over FS9. We are discussing regrets that it could have been even better.

Please don't feel obliged to contribute to such discussions if it disturbs your equilibrium. Participation is not compulsory.

No carping..thats been done in other threads and I am a main protaganist re FSX... However I have re installed it and so far see merits over FS9 which others have also pointed out and some downsides compared with FS9, again backed up by others, so its a comparison and freedom of choice issue we have here... no carping ...I love FS9 but I am beginning to like FSX, it WONT replace FS9 but it can live in harmony on my pc, now thats something I did not think I would ever say... maybe our prime minister should go the same route :tab:

There are reasons why I have both FSX and FS9 installed on my system. Each has aspects the other lacks, and both do what I want them to do: provide me with entertainment value. If I could combine what I consider to be the best aspects of both programs I could likely live with the end result for many, many years.

As for the dual monitor issue it's something I haven't tried yet. I will soon, though, since I have two identical monitors (well, almost - one is black, the other off-white) and a video card that can happily support both. Just need to take the time to arrange them and get the second hooked up. Harder than it should be, since 57 lb. (25.8kg) monitors and arthritic backs don't mix well... :o HELP

Carping on indeed. I may also like to point out that membership to any public forum is not a god given right!

Barry..
If you want to go down the 2 monitors path.. leave the CRT's on the shelf (or floor) and plump for a tft. They're cheap as chips now and are perfect for the job ;-) Can't see me ever wanting to part company with the 19" CRT I use as my main monitor because I prefer the colour/contrast combination a crt gives over a tft but time will come when crt's are no longer available :-(

I've got 4 monitors here in my toyroom and I have in the past had all 4 running in FS9 but to do so is a bit of a pain as it took 4 pc's to make the whole lot run. Running dual monitors with both running off the same card is easy in FS9 as long as you have the second monitor setup correctly in your driver software (eg.. extend my desktop to this monitor). External programs like FSBuild and FSNavigator will open and remain active by default in your main monitor but the beauty of FS9 is that once it's open and ready.. you just drag it onto the second monitor. Doesn't matter if you fly fullscreen or windowed ;-) FSX can also have external programs on a second monitor but as already stated.. it doesn't really care for it much and prefers to play with itself  I think I still have FSCommander8 on my old system Tony so will see what it takes to get it to work with FSX ;-)

EDIT..
Not used FSC8 for yonks but it works fine on the second monitor with FSX in windowed mode ;-)

Are you sure about that, Dave? I haven't got a bible conveniently to hand, but off the top of my head ...

Jehosaphat 16 chapter 3 vs 4-6. And the Lord sayeth to Jezebel in a fury "Thou hast been carping on about FSX for 40 days and 40 nights! I henceforth abandon ye to the philistines in the fiery temple of CBFS, where your arguments will be torn asunder for all eternity. Ye and your descendants and their descendants after them. Until the end of time, or FS11, whichever comes first."

Hope this helps

Ah yes.. Jehosaphat 16 chapter 3 vs 4-6. I particularly like the bit in the next verse where the disciples, having been cast into the wilderness decide to go it alone proclaiming to he on high.. 'You're Fired'

I haven't bothered reading the stuff on this page.... but just wanted to ask, who said I was referring to Dave's post??

Jumping to assumptions, gentlemen.

Think it's time I left....
