Navy Lark for me, along with Billy Cotton.

Archie Andrews/Peter Brough - a vent on radio? :dancer:

Yes, quite extraordinary - yet millions listened every week and at the time no one seemed to remark on how ridiculous it was to have a ventriloquist and his dummy on RADIO!

Other shows were 'Top of the Form', 'Dick Barton' - replaced by 'The Archers', on Radio Luxembourg 'Riders of the range' and 'Dan Dare' - "Rockets Aaway!".

Most frightening of all Valentine Dyall - The Man In Black - really scary stories.

Aye James, memories.

Up to the age of abiut 9, my drill went something like this.

Called in, ready or not, washed and pyjamas on, listen to Dick Barton, bed. :-( I seem to remember, could be wrong as I often am, a programme called Journey into Space with "Mitch" and gang.

How times have changed, the nine year old next door never gets hios tea until 'whenever' = 8pm and can be heard arguing with his Ma. Not every night of course!!

Mrs Hobby is astounded at how today's children treat their parents!! Our boys followed the same patter as us - tea at 6pm, homework before all else then wash and bed. Up at 7-7.30am, wash, breakfast, collect enough kit to fill a Carter Patterson lorry and off to school via 'Shanks's pony.' No car rides when you got to the local comprehensive 1mile away - we have always believed in a morning walk to set one up to face the day - and pocket money was earned not given away.

How times have changed!!

Pocket money!?

We used to dream of pocket money!

We were twelve kids, stuffed down in one drawer. And we didn't complain.

We used to get up half an hour before we went to bed, and started off by licking the asphalt clean out side our door.
Well, it was in fact just the lid of a cardboard box, but to us it was a door.

The snow always laid over the top of the wires, summer and winter, and we used to walk all 50 miles to school everyday including Sundays. And at eight in the evening we walked 50 miles home again....

And if you try to tell the youngsters of today that, they won't believe you!
