Cheers, Leif. I think this is the sort of performance you're talking about!
This is the -100 at DM's retro Manchester (paint courtesy of Ben Hartmann ;-) ). I changed the air file from the -200Adv to the -200 and the MCT value in the .cfg file from 13750.00 to 12600.00. I then put maximum fuel in and bumped the payload up to just under the FS max and just got the rotate call in the nick of time! All in the cause of science!
I don't know how accurate it makes the performance, but it might be closer than using the -200Adv until a better FDE comes along

A couple of things about the Probst panel that you more experienced 727 flyers might be able to help me with. That awful cockpit ticking sound that apparently is the altimeter vibrator. The panel manual says that it is quieter than the real thing and points you towards the offending .wav file to adjust the volume. But the named file doesn't exist and renaming the one that seems to be the offender makes no difference. I'm sure it's authentic, but 727 pilots were paid a lot of money to put up with it, I'm not
Ian[/quote]
Look in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\fsfsconv\panel.b727 if you installed the Probst panel according to the instructions. There is a file there "rp727_2_400hz.wav" that I think is the one to adjust. I reduced the volume using Audacity but you can also do it with the built-in Windows Sound Recorder. May not be realistic but, like you, I am not being paid to fly this baby! ;-)

Many thanks, Nigel. That did the trick! I had to download Audacity and work out how to use it, but I got there in the end! That's a
much better working environment - even if it isn't authentic. I've just got a faint purr now, just a bit quieter than the wind noise
It's strange not hearing the engines, though. You certainly learn to keep your eyes on the EPR gauges during descent and landing. Of course, the VC10 was the same but I'd forgotten that - I'd better turn down the internal engine sound volume in DM's models
Now ... anybody know why these autothrottles don't do what it says in the manual?

:o That looks like McCarran on a hot day LOL ---- not Manchester
I think you probably were still using the 200 MTOW/EOW as well -- so you were probably a tad overweight

Thanks, Nigel. I had been trying to sort this for a while. I really like this panel, but flying it with headphones was like having a hammer drill on constantly.
Now it's fixed, I'll have to plan some more 727 flights.
Cheers

DispatchDragon wrote:Having spent a few hours on 727 flight decks I can testify as to how loud they were -- Rick (RJP) can also tell you -- The Altimeter Vibrator really was that loud but after a while you didn't notice it (honest)
I haven't had a chance to download / try this yet. In the real thing though I can't remember ever even noticing it..... or have I just got used to it... not sure
Was on a Diesel-8 to Baghdad & back yesterday though & it did make a hell of a racket on that.
I find most of the noise on the 727 is through the ac system with, as Leif has mentioned, windscreen noise.
DispatchDragon wrote:The figures that appear in the 727-100s model are a dead give away - the weights are ALL for a 200 plus the fact that almost all 100s were powered by JT8D-7s and 9s - where as the 200s started with the -9 (A real lead sled PSA had some and they couldnt get out of their own way) to -15 and 17s so there is rather a difference in performance
The 200 was available with -7s, we've still got two ac with them. Not stunning performance at the best of times. Never mind when heavy out of Lahore in the middle of summer

Out of the 7 B727s I've worked on only 1 had had an autothrottle and it'd been deactivated. So, for an authentic experience, leave them broken

Disregard, I found the updates for the panel STUPID
Call me a biff, but how do you change the heading or course by a single digit? Mine seem to keep changing in 10's. At one point though it was turning at 289, 299, 309..etc so I have managed to change it once but I couldn't get it working again :-(

Jeeze and I thought -9 power made a sled - -7 power must be abysmal especially as you say hot and high
Whose were they Rick?
You sound as if you need the Super 200 with the 217s in the pods
Rick -- I guess the obnoxious ticking is what I remember most -- the AC system like the diesel and the Maddog are very loud
and FE explained why once long ago - something about where the ACM's are located on the 727 - as to the window noise
the reason I know about that is - once long ago I jumpseated from ATL-PHX on a Delta 727 which was full - so I had to ride
up front (For those of you enamoured of riding in cockpits - trust me after almost thirty years of jumpseating if I can get a
seat in the back I will take it

) the conversation about the window noise in relation to cruise speed was interesting -
also the fact that 'shaped" #2 inlet or not - above FL350 the aircraft tended to get intermittent compressor stall on the #2
engine -- it makes for an interesting wake up call for the selfloading cargo in the rear seats.
AS to the Probst panel - I think he may have exaggerated the noise some now that I listen to it.

Just looked them up on aerotransport.org & they were both originally with American AL. Oddly, they're both listed as -9 powered. Has me wondering if they were built with -9s and when they needed engines had the cheapest ones around installed.......

Definately!! Got a couple of friends who fly one thats based here, sadly not for us though

Must get round to downloading it & giving it a go. Vaguely remember he did a very good panel years ago, was it for the DC-9?
