Classic British Flight Sim

Who'd have thought we'd be here talking about Maestro's and Montego's Yes Toby.. I realised the heritage. I couldn't afford the Montego I wanted at the time so plumped for a Maestro 1.6L.. not the VDP as shown above. The Montego was basically a 'saloon' version of the Maestro and was a bit of a dog itself on the below 2.0litre models. The 2.0litre Si and MG versions were better cars to drive having such luxuries as power steering (sadly.. overpowered!). The 2.0 Si was a big car and very comfy for the day but didn't handle as well as the MG which had rather firmer suspenders. I was actually quite sad to see the Montego go (chopped in for a 309GRi) but I got for it almost as much as I paid and it's the only car I've had that warming experience! The hassle with the Maestro wheelbearings was at the front end and was a known problem.. poor design! The 3rd lot I had fitted were still under 12month warranty so I got em changed for nothing.. then got rid of car.. sharpish!

The Austin 1100 seemed a very popular car at one time, I never owned one, but I have never seen one preserved.

Used to have what seemed to be a red/blue 'ribbon' speed indicator thought to be quite novel when that was a new car.

Have they all gone to the scrap heap long ago?

True James.. you don't often see an 1100. My dad had the slightly posher version.. the 1300GT which had nice round Smiths clocks and.. if I'm not mistaken.. a 40mm twin-choke Weber. I always found the ride a bit wanting. Comfortable enough but spongey.. so much so it used to make my sister feel sick. Unfortunately for her.. she went on to become a Policewoman and the 1100 was the Panda of choice at the time

What a lovely GT6. When I live in a moisture free country, or can afford a climate controlled garage (and only drive on nice warms days!), I'm having one of them!

Two vehicles my dad used to own that I wish I had - his 1950 MG TC and his 1948 Indian Chief.
