Cheers Dan

That's the particular mesh I have installed, but I've not noticed that landclass Dl before - I'll have a wee look ;-)

Hi Jim, cracking shots there, think I'm going to have to invest in something slightly faster than the Provost, Hunter and Meteor for some heart stopping and adrenalin pumping action. :dancer:

Thanks for the links Dan, going to have a look at them tomorrow.

Regards
Nigel.

Nice to see the T7 getting an airing in FSX SP2

think it all still works ok too apart from glass against clouds :) (it was worth following the FS8 SDK then!)

She still looks great, I did get a warning for one of the gauges being FS98 so was disabled. Can't remember which of the 2 it was now. I was actually going to PM youlast night about it, but forgot

Hi Jim -
Iain Gallacher created an accurate Scottish coastline for his FSX Scotflight, and I believe that it will be made available for the FS9 one too, when Iain gets the time to squeeze it in to his schedule. I am looking forward to it, eagerly.

I use the ukn part of Andy Weir's mesh, because I have VFR Terrain to cover England and Wales. I tried other freeware meshes covering Scotland , but they were all 76m SRTM, so naturally there was no noticeable difference. The problem is that the MSFS default British Isles coastline is slightly out of position, and the displacement gets worse as you travel from North Foreland to Cape Wrath. When you drape that over a terrain mesh which is correctly positioned, you get lochs offset from the centrelines of their glens; and since many of the inland coastlines set incorrect water levels, even the lochs which are centred are surrounded by ridiculous embankments. I can assure you all, Loch Morar does not join the sea via a 50' waterfall down a cliff.

Cheers
MikeW

Thanks for that info Mike :)

I don't often get payware, but I shall make an exception in this case when it arrives. The UKN mesh is relatively good compared to default, but as we know a long way from being perfect for the very reasons you mention. The coastline corrections will make a very real difference to just 'scouting around' and actually enjoying the flying :)

I believe that the modified coastline also changes the default AI.. for ships anyway making them either not appear or appear in the wrong place south of the border. If you've not added any AI shipping.. this won't be a problem ;-)

:o FS9 comes with AI shipping?
I do have some shipping installed, in the Humber and between the Thames and Falmouth, but none of it is default.
(Insert suitable anti-Sassenach 'outside the M25 ring' comment)
If memory serves, there used to be (?FS2000 ?2002) an add-on with all the CalMac Ferries in action. I think that was Iain's, too.

Hi MIke..

I was refering more specifically to FSX and the FSX version of Scotflight although I do have some AI shipping in FS9 too ;-)

Cheers, Dave - it was too good a chance to miss... :worried: :)

I am staying with the Flat Earthers, because my FS9 just has too much B,S &T invested in it to be simply abandoned. FSX is capable of great things and I will move to it one day, but I am pretty sure I will still have an FS9 machine as well.
I had thought the move to a 'round earth' model would solve all the landmass location problems, so it is a bit of a worry that improving the detail of a coastline which should have been generally correct in the first place, seems to be causing problems elsewhere. By that I mean, in FS9, John o'Groats, Cape Wrath and the Mull of Kintyre are correctly placed in relation to each other, even though they are all out of position in the world, whereas the FSX round earth should have them positioned correctly, in both aspects; so even though the coastlines joining them in either sim will be fairly nominal and short on detail, the FSX one should be more 'correct'.
