I use DM's '75 Manchester so my AI is a bit later. Although I'm more of a jet man, I do tolerate some old-fashioned propellor thingys just for the atmosphere

Here's a taster (all these aircraft are AI):

What you choose for AI rather depends on whether your system will run it as the quality of the aircraft will impact the frame rates. I'd recommend trying the better quality AI first and then compromising if your system shudders under the strain!.

I've used Rick Piper's Viscounts and Vanguards (full models) as AI because they are very frame rate friendly. But get them from the members section on this site as other copies of the files may be corrupted. DM does a selection of ready-to-go AI VC10s and all of his models contain a texture converter within the folder which reduces the poly count and turns them into AI models. You don't need panels or sound with any of these, obviously, and put them into separate folders from any flying models you're using. Prefix all the AI a/c folders with 'AI' so you know which is which.

As ferryman says, you can get most of the older props and jets from Cal Classics http://www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htm

And Dee Waldron also has a good selection of base models here http://www.htaimodels.com/downloads/dwai/fs_projects/

There are plenty of repaints on Avsim for them. The quality is variable but they are very good on frame rates and give you a good atmosphere (the little blue and white propellor thingys in the pics are Dee Waldron's  ). I've written my own flightplans but there are comprehensive flightplans for this period at Cal Classics and Retro AI, as already mentioned http://www.retroai.org/.

Setting up AI can be a bit of a dark art so if you have no experience you may be better off with the Cal Classics package. I don't use it myself but probably Dan could advise on that.

Hope this helps

Ian :)

Oh and by the way - what about the vans and stairs etc.? Is it not possible to press a button and make them appear as they do with some addon aircraft, like DM's stuff and in some cases the HJG Convairs for example?

Hi,

My traffic includes the Vanguard, of course. :) BEA only, though, since my traffic ends in 1962.

A pic of the 62 EGCC with my traffic:

There are Viscounts, DC-3's, a Heron, an F-27, a DC-6 and a Connie in view here. The 1962 traffic includes BOAC and Sabena 707's too.

Take care,

Hi again,

I can't believe I forgot this. I want to give David a HUGE thank you for creating this airport, somewhat at my prodding. I am so grateful for all of his hard work.

Thanks David!!!

PS. David has improved the 1975 airport scenery too, in case you didn't notice. :)

That looks really lovely, Tom! If Paul wants 1962 he certainly can't do better than your package!

Paul - in answer to your question about airstairs etc. I don't know the answer, but if Tom comes back I'm sure he will. Rick's Vanguards and Viscounts when used in AI automatically deploy them on shutdown. DM's aircraft don't. I don't know how it is controlled but there are cleverer men than me around here who may give you an answer!

Many of Tom's Cal Classics have a separate model in the folder which give you a choice of stairs or not.

Has he? :o The little tinker! I'd best go and have a look. Thanks, Tom.

EDIT: I've downloaded and installed the latest MAN '75 but can't see any obvious difference to the old one. It still works - which is the important thing. Thanks DM for whatever it is you did  (or at least for not messing it up  )

Ian :)

Hi,

The airstairs have to use a trigger that is applicable to AI aircraft (most aren't). My stairs are triggered by two conditions in FSDS - beacon off and c_wheel_high (as I remember) stopped. This deploys them only at the gate.

The 1962 version included a new model of the Airport Hotel, so that got put into 1975 as well.
So no major changes, but you can now pull over and get a nice pint of Robinson's before departing on 24.
