Re: Automated Card Fraud Notification

My parents went away overseas on holiday a couple of years ago and I 'volunteered' to look after their house whilst they were away. No sooner had they gone, that their bank was phoning up saying that they urgently needed to speak to them (joint account) as to their credit card. As I wasnt the card holder, they werent of course in the position to inform me of the details, but it was urgent that contact was made.
I somehow found the telephone number of the hotel at which they were staying and tried to inform the staff that my parents were to contact the bank immediately. They carried on with their holiday and so did I (!) and only when I picked my parents up from the airport at Bristol, was I told that good old Mum and Dad had ignored the numbers as............they hadnt taken their credit cards on holiday with them.
In the end upon phoning the bank up when home, did it all come to light. From what I can gather, is that Mum only used her card to pay for a monthly subcription to a internet provider and when she finished with them, for some strange reason £900 was taken out of her account. A few pounds a month was ok, but this seemed a little out of the ordinary and so the bank intervened. Seemed that someone from the internet provider used her money for an online gambling addiction.
Now both myself and Dad dont have a credit card. If you cant afford it, then you cant have it.
Best wishes,
Martin
