Three main points.
1: Brundle used the comparison of a 'professional dive' as in football - in other words, cheating. This is because of attempting to create the impression of something that didn't happen. (One reason I went off football a while ago - sports like Rugby,Darts, Snooker and (generally) motorsport it's a lot harder or impossible to get away with cheating per se, even if there are dodgy decisions in some at times.

2: It appears they were 'in fear' of Hambo being penalised for passing Trulli, and Ryan instructed Hambo to 'toe the line'. Unless Ryan comes out in public, we won't really know the true reason behind this, since after all they were in the right to begin with. Perhaps paranoia at all the hassle they have had (either way) with the FIA previously. Basically, they should have said 'We were unsure and so told Hambo the let Trulli repass.' - but they didn't.

3: I've no idea how it will go with Hambo himself, or how he answered questions put to him. Whatever the FIA decide, the 'only following orders' line is pretty irrelevant I'd say - if Schumacher argued that he was told to collide with villeneueve at Jerez, would it make any difference?
That said, how the FIA will deal with it remains to be seen.

Just going to comment on Jims post... Im under the impression that team orders were, not abolished, but could be ignored by the drivers or they are not firm standing words...

I think, that Hambo, will come off OK but may be punished for lying, on the otherhand Maclaren will not be let off lightly...

Dave Ryan, have formally parted company. As a result, he is no longer an employee of any of the constituent companies of the McLaren Group."
Now who stands in front of the FIA World Motor Sport Council and explains the reasons why crucial information was with-held as Dave Ryan no longer is an employee, McLaren Team itself may not have been aware of the instructions between Ryan and Hamilton to keep quiet regarding the radio transmission so it may now be down to Hamilton himself to justify the reasons and he will no doubt state that he felt an obligation to his immediate superior and in hindsight now realises that it was the wrong thing to do!!?? :dunno:

Think we should start placing our bets?

Regards
Nigel.

Hamilton has been with McLaren since he was about 8 years old, he is conditioned to do everything they tell him. The guy has never lived in the real world, he probably has stylists that tell him what to wear and nutritionist that tell him what to eat. Even his Dad never sems to be more than a 100yds away from him. The only time he makes decisions is when he's driving. It was totally the wrong thing to do but I feel that the guy was just doing what he's always done..exactly what McLaren tells him to do. What he did was absolutely wrong but I bet he didn't think through the consequences..he has people to do that for him.

That's pretty much what I hinted at in another post Jim. He owes McLaren a lot more than the last two years and while no one can excuse the fact he appears to have told a porky.. albeit under instruction.. I agree it was probably instinctive to do as he was told regardless of the alarm bells ringing in his head. Shame really and it should never have come to this but it did and he'll have to dig deep and claw his way out of a bad lot.
