Well, I was expecting a particularly feeble sort of yellow, which is how I remember the Airfix kit.

Dave(M)oly has a friend who was a Wop down there - apparently there is an Twotter and a Dash7 which are painted the same colour orange.
also we found some photos of the 1956 expedition - the NZAF Beaver and Otter and the Antartica are seen together in basically the same colour
. There is also a very unfortunate photo of an Antartica sitting with its Ski's in the air , proving that the belly and underside of the wings were the
same colour. As Dave says after WE600's return to the UK it was painted trainer yellow for whatever reason - this is what the Airfix folks saw, and
duplicated it -- as far as can be ascertained it was fitted with wheels and ski's but never used the floats - Dave has also modeled three different VC's
for this model -- the AOP version without controls on the Right side and the much discussed rotating "Throne" in the back seat plus all the associated
radios - The T7 dual control version and the Antartica - which will have the Marconi ADF (in 56 considered state of the art) amongst some other little
bits and bobs. Personally (and YES I'm biased) It will fill another missing link in the Classic British menu.

Oh yes if anyone has photo's of the AOP9's Bomardier engine using a cartridge start I would like to see it. Martin (T6Flyer) has graciously recorded
the real AOP9 sounds for me - and I have a Kaufmann starter sound clip -- so Even if Dave decides not to remodel the AOP9 I am trying to put together
a sound file for the 9 -- The 6 was easy as it used a Gypsy which we already have an excellent sound file for courtesy of Don Putnam. OFFTOPIC

Can't remember back through the decades as to what colour Airfix recommended painting their Auster. However, it was(is) not unknown for them to offer their mouldings in quite unsuitable colours - especially when they are to be painted white :-(
The three aircraft are now (just) being sent to 'the pond' for the beta testers to attempt :flying: .

Reading throught the review of the "update" it seems that they are still suggesting the WE600 be finish in "Trainer Yellow" for the Antartic version :brick:

Thanks Ian - I just knew somebody here would solve the mystery of the kit colour. However, as agreed by others, all the pix of the real aircraft show it in a rather fetching shade of orange - so 'case-closed' .

Sounds like the yellow plastic the Islander was moulded in to save painting the Aurigny yellow.....that was more of an orange-yellow.

I suppose it is the right colour in as much as it wasn't blue.

In those days they were a little more 'approximate' and nothing would be said in those far off days

The mags were black and white and any colour plate were very saturated or lacked colour and tbh I would not have known the difference on the Auster, the Aurigny yes, but only because I had seen them.
