To go back to Peter's comments - ACES was told that FSX was to be the "first coat tail cutter" version with FS11 being the other to remove all evidence of the original BAO coding and work out of the program. Basically, they were trying to rid themselves of the non-standard AIR file and move to a file system that used more common format while also getting the last of the graphics processes that were being handled by the CPU off to the GPU. Much of the second part required them to depend heavily on DX10 coming to them on time and doing what it promised. Since DX10 did not deliver, they had to re-write the code at the last minute and make it DX9-based. This caused a lot of the improvements they wanted in to be removed and others to be compromised so they were back on the CPU instead of the GPU. Then they decided at the beginning of the project not to support multi-core processors because they weren't sure if they were going to catch on like they did and that further handicapped them.

In all, the point is - they were moving in the right direction, but external factors (mainly DX10 and their deadline to release with Vista) forced them to do things that compromised the final product.

The team composition for FSX was NOT the same as for FS9... Many of the FS9 team had left and been replaced, including the head man. I beta tested both products.

The information I have from inside MS Corp (not any of the other parts of the company) is that the team was "largely" the same, with augmented numbers. Certainly what I have been told is that 90% of the staff who developed FS9 were on the team for FSX. Given this info will have an MS slant on it, but if I take it at face value I'd say that was more of the same team than not?

Hey guys, stop with the negative waves for FSX or I'll have to strap some drain pipe on my plane!

I've been a follower of Flightsim since the C64 and Sublogic. I also had their Submarine simulator, anyone remember that!
I've enjoyed every version of FS. I stalled at FS2000 because my setup couldn't run it. So I waited. Then last year upgraded my system and purchased FSX.
FSX is great, but then so is FS2004 and all before.
Don't knock MS for FS as that's why we are where we are today.
I wish Aerosoft well but it's not going to be easy to persuade someone like me to change sims. I've invested too much on this one.
Maybe in 3-5 years time? But as long as the spirit survives I'll probably be flying.

It's worth giving them time to establish themselves without dismissing them just yet - of course that might be the end result but you never know. Hopefully they will have learned as much from FSX as we have.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Folks

You can see the entire list of FSX team members
by looking at the in game menu -> Help -> About -> Credits,
(or at the Credits.rtf file located in the FSX root folder).

Neither Rick Selby or Kathie Flood are listed.

Guess similar list may be available in FS9.

Rick was originally FS but moved over to the TrainSim part of ACES when they started work on the first one with KUJU. After TS1 came out, he worked on FSX until TS2 development started and then moved back over. Don't know Kathie.
