How very true. Almost inspired to blow the dust off a phot I have here of Mr B Senior (he's always disliked the fact that he could only get his hands on an officers cap badge when the phot was taken so I took it off him last year and photoshopped out some of the gold). He's happy as a pig in you know what now he's not masquerading as an officer any more

Great pics, Chris. Thanks for sharing them. Iowa definitely has a gorgeous capital building! If I ever again find myself on I-80/I-35 I'll pull off to get a better look at your lovely city.

Lovely pictures Chris ! Nice to see the home town of my favourite Des Moines-ian, Bill Bryson. Well, second favourite...you are my favourite, of course.

Great pictures, Chris. I realize it was Saturday when you took the pictures, but the streets appear to be deserted. It would be hard to take a picture where I live without lots of traffic in the shot - anytime of day or night.

We are having the same weather here - beautiful and unusually warm for November with not a cloud in the sky.

Yeah, down town Des Moines is pretty well a Monday through Friday affair for most - the bar crowd will run later. Since it was Saturday, I'm sure most people were home getting ready to watch football (the wrong kind) or raking leaves, which is certainly what I should have been doing instead of larking about.

The pictures don't really do it justice. I see it every day on my walk to and from the car park, and am always taken in, even though it may be filled with buffoons from time to time.

The weather today was just as gorgeous - it's days like these that more than make up for the occasional tornado/blizzard, depending on the season.

A tornado was reported in Oregon today... out of season to have one in November

I think you'll find that buffoons are a very common commodity in most, if not all, government buildings.
