That's kind of you to say so I was a bit miffed that a couple of things I used in v1 disappeared (at least I've never been able to find em) in v2 but I guess your summary is on the nail. The full prog is a monster which as you rightly say, does things that your average Joe (or in this case Paul K and Dave B) simply have no need for

Know what you mean, Dave. I would have gone to GIMP or Paint.Net if forced to, but glad I can stick with what I know. The only thing I've yet to work out is how you open Elements by right-clicking on an image and selecting 'Open with...' . With this XP mode thing, the .exe seems to reside deep in the system bowels of Windows 7, rather than in its own folder on the C: drive. As it is, I have to start Elements first, then open the image from there. Not really a problem, but the shortcut method was handy at times.

And I agree about all the capabilities on the full version. I've got Photoshop 5.5 too, but after having used it for a short while, I found Elements 2 good enough for what I want / am capable of.

Years ago in the days of Photoshop 2.....Adobe themselves were saying that no one person knows how to use all of the programme fully.

It is just too big and even top experts tha appear to use everything are missing out on hidden permitations and feaures.

The years will have only made that more so. Highly specialised there was critism then about the high cost of something that would largely go unused and as such putting it outside the budget of normal folk and folk that could come up with the pennies but did not want to pay for all that.

So Elements was eventually born and the other extreme the CS series which are suites of programmes for those who do want to use much of the features of PS and illustrater etc.

Yep....even in the early days the new improved flavours alays seemd to do away with an old favourite or two and change or disable popular shortcuts.

If you complain they just point out the advantages and fuctions of new improved featurs an extras the new version has and leave you thinking "Why on earth will I ever want to do that".

Elements is still a very powerful tool for our purposes....Why buy and operate a Concorde when a Twin Otter will do the job with a good bit left over

Hmmm, I might have spoken too soon. I have DXTBmp happily running in Windows 7, but can't seem to select Elements 2 ( running on the virtual XP machine ) as DXTBmp's graphics editor.

I never go to a graphics editor via DXT.BMP I always open within the editor itself.

I have done but only when copying alpha channels otherwise.. I use the paint prog direct. Come to think of it, of late.. I've usually saved the alpha from within DXTbmp and done any editing straight from Elements.

All my alphas are a group on the main PSD...group switched on saved as a BMP and called in via DXTBMP.
