Thanks Techy!

It's been a fun night... managed to get the silly thing loaded, but only in my admin account... using my standard account on Win7 the thing simply crashes my FSX instantly... the admin account doesn't have REX etc., running in it... so it's note as much fun as I like! I normally only use that account on the box when I'm messing with files etc.

I did register it... I think I'm just going to go have a drink and forget about flying pooter-planes for a bit!

Hey Techy1111,

I spoke too soon...

I still can't get the QW757 to run on my main FSX installation using my regular admin account in Win7... to give you the entire story...

First I couldn't get it to install at all... the "bglmanx" error... I followed the recommended steps, deleting the entries from my FSX.cfg etc... but to no avail. Finally, I opened a new "root" level admin account. When I ran the setup.exe via that accouont, the QW757 installed perfectly, flew great, etc. I had all of the expected steps - telling FSX to trust the bglmanx, the QW guages, etc., and successfully ran the registration app which loaded a product key on my drive.

Then...moved over to my regular account, where all my FSX addon's are also running with FSX (UT2, Rex2), opened the sim, flew the Cessna a bit, then loaded the QW757. FSX crashes as soon as the select aircraft screen closes...

Any ideas or tricks I can try ? That one flight I took in the root admin account showed me it's a lovely a/c model, and I simply love the cockpits... but unless I can run this in my main account, there really isn't as much fun happening!

Thanks for thinking about this... I was going to post on the QW forum, I registered my copy there, but for the life of me I can't find a "new posting" button anywhere on the forum!

Hi Mark,

The term root is what we use in UNIX, so its a bit difficult to understand what you mean. Are you saying that you have two user accounts on the PC, one as a standard user and one as an Administrator? This is all I can think you mean as Windows 7 (by default) only has these two account types.

If this is what you mean I'd imagine there are a whole host of 3rd party addons that won't work when run as a standard user. I don't know of any of my fellow FS'ers who run in this configuration.

The only work arround that I could suggest, if your adimant that this is the way you must run FS is to right click on the FSX Icon and select run as administrator, and then provide the credentials for your administrator account. In this way anything that the FSX.exe file calls or runs "should" run with admin privilages.

Hi Ben,

Yup, I was using Unix terminology... My "regular" account is an administrator account, but in their wisdom, Microsoft has two levels of "admin" accounts... the normal admin account still has certain restrictions on it... for instance, trying to change an entry in a .cfg file while the file in question is part of an application. It simply won't let you... but there's a "root" level admin account which I created that lets me do everything I want. So in effect, I have two admin-level accounts, my "regular" account which has the Microsoft restrictions on it, and my (for lack of a better term) SU Admin account where you're allowed to interact with the file systems (etc.) without MS popping up and saying "NO"...

Rgr that mate. Can you try right clicking on the FSX Icon and selecting run as administrator? This will do everything that your "other" Admin account does, only without the need to change to the other user account.

I tried that a couple times, but it always crashed... but there's been so many changes, I'm not sure what's going on now! I'll start again from scratch!

Don't ask me how I discovered this... but if I delete the .gau files associated with the QW757, the sim loads fine, but my aircraft is sitting on the runway with no instruments (of course!) and now main gear, with all of it's flaps and slats at max depression... at least I finally got it going in my main directory without FSX eating itself!

Mark - thanks for all the help and support gents!

Oh well,

I'll close this story off. The good news: It's running like a top in my Admin account... but no matter what, I can't get it to go in my main FSX. The second I click on "OK" in the select aircraft screen, FSX crashes hard... doesn't even do that "I've got a problem and let me tell MS about it" thing.

The QW757 is lovely... flys nice, good framerates, and oh those lovely cockpits... but for now I'm going to go back to Mr. Maltby's Trident for some lovin'! Once my head clears, I'll go back to the 757 tomorrow...!

Again, thanks for helping Gents!

I had the same problems that you are stating, ie the 757 with no main undercarriage, flaps extended
etc.
Have you any Cloud9 or FS Dreamteam scenery installed, I had, and the scenery went back to trial mode
aswell, the 757 and these sceneries use the same addon manager, so if they are not the same versions
there is problem.
What solved it for me was to download the addon manager exe currently on the FS Dreamteam scenery site and run this exe, you should be connented to the internet, I was as this exe seems to indicate the
bringing in of a QW 757 Gau file.
Afer this process the QW 757 and the Sceneries worked fine, there are postings on this subject on the QW Forums Site.
I am using FSX at the moment.
Hope this helps
Colin
