Let's think about this seriously, because it is a serious subject. If someone wishes to target a particular aeroplane, the delay is crucial, because it is imposible to track that aircraft accurately, and more to the point impossible to predict where it will be from a position 15 minutes or so old. This is particularly so where direct tracks are commonly given . The delay is thus a perfectly good security feature. If , on the other hand, someone wishes merely to target any aircraft indiscriminately , then no knowledge of whereabouts is necessary, and an opportunistic target is selected. In those circumstances, these feeds are of no use to a terrorist at all

Checked a couple this morning and it does seem about 15 mins delay.

This is fun. Just watched the BA4 from JFK to LCY descending over the Bristol Channel and then went outside to watch it go over. Unfortunately it was too cloudy and my neighbour was out there - so I pretended I was checking for snow

It went off the radar after that so it either landed in Sipson or on the Bath Road. Nice one!

Sites like this track flights from the ADS-B readout from the transponder. In many places as an aircraft descends it may get too low for the signal to reach the receiver (this is no radar picture), which causes the aircraft to drop off the screen at a strange point. Some high buildings in Amsterdam can give the same effect on the above website, aircraft sometimes disappear and reappear shortly after.

I think all such sites should be banned on the internet and those responsible for reproducing so called 'live' transmissions, be it 'radar' or radio transmissions of any and all descriptions should face the full weight of the law

If you wanted real time information for nefarious uses, there is no difficulty in buying the kit that allows this - it is not illegal and is in widespread use. If Gordon would let me have a few more of the ££ that I earned, I might just commit to a purchase out of interest.

I'm not convinced that putting the info on the internet makes any difference - those that need confirmed data will not rely on the time delay version. And if the whole concept was illegal, someone would find a way around it - banning things just makes it difficult for the law-abiding and more expensive for the rest.

It's easy enough to track them with a scanner....just can't get the registrations

They give they passing point and the next point often with an ETA fpr that point

Not yet Ian too much cloud cover at the mo 8/8ths base around 1,000ft and raining, visibilty around 1 mile from one of the cameras 165ft up on a block of flats. Don't look as though I am going to get a visit after all.

NB: Does he have a transponder fitted to his sleigh?
