I've heard that on too
I suppose it could be true due to the need to replace the correct weight.
Perhaps a visit to an active Dove late at night with a tin opener
Failing that it make a great urban myth

George, firstly welcome to our humble abode, always a real pleasure welcoming new members especially ones with actual flying experience behind them.
Secondly, try not to take some of the replies seriously such as the above quoted one. Some have been members of this Forum for a long time and have developed a very questionable sense of humour!

I could mention them by name but........!!
Regards
Nigel.

Well Guys, this Yank certainly feels welcomed! Thanks. I do have a used C-130 pneumatic starter but it's in pieces. They had a habit of blowing up in the early Herc days.
I'm retired USAF and Alaska Air National Guard. Quite a bit of experience as FE on both military and civil C-130 plus Electras. Some small amount of time as pilot on them. Worked quite a while as a ferry professional FE transporting CL-44, 707,720, DC-8 and any other old airplanes that came along so I could make a living. I also owned an Aeronca sedan on floats while living in Anchorage. (not exactly a British classic).
I worked for a short time as a jet engine (industrial) consultant in Manchester and Barrow in Furnace? My wife and I were always made to feel welcome when we worked in the UK and always enjoyed our time there.
Thanks for the welcome. Regards, George

So George, apart from that,do you feel that you could bring some first hand experience to this site?
(Only joking. There are some odd characters around here).

Oh crikey! As well as all that, you lived in Anchorage and flew a floatplane! You
will fit in well here, George.
A lot of us have Alaskan scenery installed in flight sim and we regularly fly floatplanes around the area. I used to visit Anchorage in the 70s and 80s and like to fly a virtual floatplane from Lake Hood as well as virtual 707s from Stevens Intl.
Thanks for telling us about your past aviation experience, you'll always find an attentive audience if you decide to spin a few yarns. But do expect to get teased - nobody's excused that
Ian
