I lay no credence in my memory mark.. that's just how I remember it

Like many things, if read in black and white.. there often seems no immediate way out. Anyone out there vaguely au fait with H&S will know that if the country abided by it's rules to the letter, the country would almost certainly come to a standstill!

I think similar applied to the new rules regarding the operation of Classic aircraft in that they looked damning.. especially if certain extracts are quoted on their own. My recollection was that avenues for certain exemptions were available but were not pursued or considered at all leaving the DC3's available to run up to the beginning of the new rules with nowhere else to go. I couldn't quote exactly what these exemptions were but the fact they were not pursued lead me to believe it left AA with a convenient place to stop DC3 ops. Maybe I'm too cynical

I could of course be completely wrong

Hi Dave.I echo your sentiments on H&S.I wonder what would have happened had they been around at the time of Agincourt.Probably would have made the archers put rubber suckers on the ends of their arrows to prevent anyone getting hurt!!Makes you weep doesn't it.EricT

interestingly, Classic Flight still seem to be based at Coventry (although not operating passenger flights from there) and are still calling themselves "Air Atlantique Classic Flight" (as opposed to Air Atlantic) in some places on their website. I wonder if Mike Collett retained the "Atlantique" name.

I dunno mate. From what I remember Tom saying.. the aircraft (Rapides and perhaps others) were 'available' for use outside the AA banner but at that time, Coventry hadn't closed so WTF happens now, I really couldn't say. Too many curved balls have been thrown to be certain of anything though I'd guess the runway could still be used there otherwise Atlantic Engineering would have a facility and no way to get trade in.

The limiting factor for the DC-3 under EU-Ops regarding evacuation slides was the height of the emergency exits above ground level. A victim of its geometry. No slides on a Dash8-Q400 with 70+ seats but it's so much lower to the ground. Previously, under JAR-Ops1, the UK CAA had the ability to issue permissions and/or exemptions, however EU-Ops allowed no such leeway as it's European Law.

Ahh.. now then, evacuations. That rings a bell Nige
Pity that EU law only applies to those who see fit to accept it

Well thanks for this info, I had no idea they'd merged. I read a feature in the controversial 'new'
Aircraft magazine a while ago about Mike Collett and the history of his Airline. Whereas it follows his division, there was no mension of what happened to the parent company.
I'll tell you one thing, I'll miss that very attractive livery....
