First 'preserved' Nimrod announced.

Just caught the local news on BBC1 (Look North based in Leeds), that the Yorkshire Air Museun at Elvington will take delivery of a Nimrod MR2 on Tuesday April 13th. Where it will be maintained in ground running condition.

Sadly two days late to take part in the YAM's first 'Thunder Day' of the year, when the Buccaneer & Victor get to strut their stuff.

Funny you should say that. Having read the link I posted more fully...seems other arframes live or otherwise are destined for Manchester - can't see it being Woodford, its shutting up shop, Bruntingthorpe & Coventry.

Things may develop as the weeks porgress.

I think only 9 are getting converted to MRA.4 now (I guess they thought Nimrod 2000 sounded a bit old fashioned) and they've already been taken so the surviving MR.2s should all be available for museums I guess.

There are a series of farewell flypasts on Tues and Wed of next week

Apr 1st is the date for the redistribution of the crews

Hi folks,

The last scheduled MR2 flights will be flown tomorrow and Wednesday; after then the only flights will be to deliver the airframes to museums. The crews will be fully employed working up for the new jet which will, trust me, keep them very busy indeed!

42 (Torpedo Bomber) Sqn is hoping to visit St Mawgan, RNAS Culdrose, RAF Valley, Warton, Woodford and RAF Waddington for the last time tomorrow late morning / early afternoon. All things being equal we will be at St Mawgan, sorry Newquay International (old habits die hard), between 1200-1300 to say goodbye to 42's spiritual home.
