Now you come to mention it.. I believe GolfCharlie at Duxford has just failed it's MoT. I can't remember the detail but it's to do with the fin/tailplane *-) Nice as it will be to see lots of ex-RAF 10's around the place (should this happen).. I think it's important to keep just one in full civvie fit. Hope the DAS can get theirs sorted ;)

Sad also that they're my favorite mark of VC10 - the C1k. But it will be interesting to see them there if I decide to go to the open day next month.

Don't worry though guys, I'm sure one of the last of the old girls will be preserved in running order there, it would be a crime not to!

That's the one.

Agreed. However, if there's anywhere to put a K3, complete with GW1 nose art, it's the IWM.

Wouldn't it be nice if XR808 came out of the paintshop in a proper C1 colourscheme to go to Cosford. :)

Yep, more info, with photos and links to video here: http://www.vc10.net/news.html

The company doing the scrapping has space at Bruntingthorpe, so that's where they're going. As for parts, yes they are after those! Anything with service life left on these airframes will be taken off and reused.

As for 'GC at Duxford, I've heard the rumour a couple of times now, I wonder what they will do with the situation. With such a large restoration facility and all the know-how available I feel that the proper action should be restoration and/or repair. Surely they won't be so silly to think "we'll just get another one..."? Bear in mind that 'GC is the only remaining true civil VC10. A4O-AB and G-ARVF are ex-BUA and BOAC respectively but are both in VIP configuration. G-ARVM was the last true civil Standard, but we know what happened there. All the RAF airframes that will perhaps become available are either RAF or ex-East African Airways converted to Tanker.

So.... will we allow our BOAC heritage to disappear?

Let us hope not.

Great video. Thanks for that. Never knew the VC10 could perform such a STOL.

Would put a Twin Otter to shame in that vid. :)

Yup.. enjoyed that

Were GC to disappear, it would certainly leave Duxford with more than egg on their faces. Already, a number of components have been broken in preparation for restoration work (something I might add that 2 blokes at Brooklands have done successfully on A4O!) so all in all.. they're not shining bright at the mo.

Perhaps a compromise could be to cannalbalised a tanker to repair 'GC *-)
