Always great to read first hand accounts of how things used to be, I wonder if the modern staff have quite the passion nowadays as it seems to be becoming just a job

I think it was great you got to actually fly as a better understanding of what its like to be up there relying on ATC to get you down can only be a big safety plus.

Pete do the ATC controllers not get flying lessons anymore? I know from speaking to the ATC guys and ladies that they used to get jump seat flights to experience the "other end" as such.
We at BHX take new controllers on a fly round so they can appreciate what we do and it gives them a better understanding of why we are zipping about the controlled airspace all the time, making their work harder.
