Always great to read first hand accounts of how things used to be, I wonder if the modern staff have quite the passion nowadays as it seems to be becoming just a job :(

Halcyon times, although you didn't realise that at the time it would change...... :)

I think it was great you got to actually fly as a better understanding of what its like to be up there relying on ATC to get you down can only be a big safety plus.

The A40... I had a nice 1963 example as my first car, loved it even if bits of the body fell off when I shut the door too sharply :lol:
Pete do the ATC controllers not get flying lessons anymore? I know from speaking to the ATC guys and ladies that they used to get jump seat flights to experience the "other end" as such.
We at BHX take new controllers on a fly round so they can appreciate what we do and it gives them a better understanding of why we are zipping about the controlled airspace all the time, making their work harder. :)

A maroon A40 was my second car.My first car was a grey A35 which I think was 11 years old when I bought it!EricT :)
