Out of interest, what is the purpose of the slight addition to the receivers tail cone??

I'd not like to guess what that might be mate but the differences between the K3 and K4 (apart from the obvious ones) are enough to have (where necessary) separate notations in the SOP's. Inside, (less obvious) they're equally different although similar enough.. as would be a 1-11 200 and a 1-11 500 I guess :)

The K3 tail-cone is slightly longer than the K4 due to the addition of an ariel for the RWR...

It looks like a right mongrel to me. Starlifter round the flightdeck , C-17 tail and Herc-ish in between. Not a fan of it at all, but then I'm no great fan of Euro-anything really.

The C-17 always looked like it pinched the tail from the YC-15...perhaps they have invented the international standard tail

The thing I dislike about the A.400M is the fat spinners, looks like a toy.

Why the trials with a VC Ten?...will it be in service before the Ten goes out. I would have though a TriStar would be more apt.??

Perhaps it's just the connections on trial *-)

Mongrels are usually hardier than thoroughbreds

Well they both came from McDD. The YC-14 and YC-15 were both concepts that influenced the design of the C-17.
