Digressing slightly,I would advise anyone sending birthday cards not to put money oe even a gift card inside.We have done this and it seems that if anything goes missing,it is one of these.Also we never buy one of those cards which has a badge attached.It can feel like a coin Too many light fingered sh!tes methinks.What happened to the RM we used to know?

Just to add to the above,if you are sending cards with vouchers inside, etc etc always make sure that the envelope you are sending them in is a plain one void of any best wishes/greetings written on the front. Im sure the vast majority of Royal Mail staff are very honest people,but no doubt there are a few bad ones. Its better to be safe than sorry..

Last year I ordered a pair of Doc Martin steelies work boots, online...two weeks later they hadn't arrived so I emailed the company. They replied almost immediately to say that the package should have been delivered the following day.

I went to the sorting office, showed them the email and they went and found the parcel. I let the company know that I had the package to which they instantly replied that they apologised for the fact that the PO hadn't left a 'tried to deliver' card

When I collected the parcel from the PO their only comment was that it was a good job I'd collected as they would have returned to sender the following day..when I asked them the time and date of 'attempted' delivery I realised that I would have been at home

Does anyone know if this is some sort of RM policy?

I don't believe it is policy but the Daily Mail last year highlighted it as a common practise.

On the other hand I got one of those cards through the door last week, when I was out, but as I had come back fairly soon after I went on a local postman hunt. I soon 'caught' one, but had to let him go as it wasn't the right postman, although he did used to deliver to my address. As I couldn't find another postie I went home.

About 10 mins later the door bell rang and it was the postman I caught with my package! He seen the right postman, got the package off him and delivered it to me. So not all postie's are bad
