My sister always gives me grief for not shopping around for cheaper insurance. I've been doing business with the same insurance company since I bought my first car. They've never given me a reason to look elsewhere and when I pop in to their office the lady (she's married ) at the front desk always greets me with a "Hi Brian".

I don't trust the price comparison sites either. Make the phone calls. Also it is sometimes beneficial to call your present vendor, be it a credit card company, ISP or anyone else and mention your thinking of switching. Quite often they will quote you a better rate to keep your business, I just threatened to switch my ISP (Verizon) and got a lower rate out of them and they increased my internet speed to 25/25 mbs as well.

Diamond, as are Elephant, are another of Admiral's brands (all three websites were the same format with different branding last time I checked), so it's no surprise they would have matched it - we've been with Elephant/Diamond and Admiral for the last few years. Just like anything financial, it's interesting to see who owns what!

Yes, we'd found out that Diamond was under the Admiral umbrella so it was no surprise when they called the day after the policy had been moved. Still.. had it been £50 or even £100, the immediate admission they'd have matched it would have been easier to swallow. To blatantly ask for £400 more than the best price they could offer (which is what it boils down to) sucks somewhat.. or am I asking too much of insurance companies

insurance companies really really annoy me, even as an experienced motorist one ends up paying over the odds. give you an example, I am an Advanced Driver, when I first started back in the nineties training for the advanced driving test I was told that when I passed my insurance would be cheaper - wrong!!!!! - not many, if any at all, actually recognise the Institute of Advance Motorists, when I went for quotes they replied we don't give discounts nor recognise that qualification!!!!!

Having previously taken and passed 7 MOT Driving Tests first time on various classes of vehicles including HGV's, undertaken High Performance Driving Instruction on the road as well, it just appears that those who are willing to improve their driving skills are very much ignored!! In America there is even a discount for those who have a DVR Car Camera in their cars and one can buy these relatively cheaply (between £30 upwards) that give true HD definition (made in China) I have one and can say they are very good quality with extremely good definition playback in real time.

I think it is about time insurance companies looked at giving drivers an incentive to improve their skills and rewarding them
