Well mate.. it IS a Devon, not a Dove. I was being pedantic due to Eric's 'Despite that I enjoyed the flight very much!' quote We were all going the year before and would have but for the bent crank. Mucho disappointment Never mind.. we all went on the TwinPin instead and very smooth it was indeed

Interesting to hear you went up in the Twin Pin

I used to see those daily at times when JF Airlines used them. I was impressed every time I saw one..you could 'see' the lift almost like a hand raising it at unbelievably low speed and gently setting it down...a bit like you do watching a Piper Cub

In any sort of wind it had a virtually immeasurable landing run because as soon as the suspension took the weight it was close to taxi speed

How rude Eric!! Strangely enough I have the same pic from a slightly different angle, i.e., the seat behind yours....talking of which, you're lucky you didn't get a smack on the back of the head for constantly obscuring my view of the cockpit........

I ws sat in the seat Eric had and posted a photograph.......he had the cheek to ask if I was sat on his lap!! and as for:

They all bagged the seats before me so had to go on the later flight!!!

From reading about the Devon on their website it is written:

De Havilland developed the Dove as a short haul airliner to replace the Dragon Rapide, a role it fulfilled well enough to come to the attention of the RAF. Their version was named the Devon - the story that they changed the name because the Ministry of Defence preferred not to name an aircraft after the bird of peace can't be confirmed!

Wonder if there is some truth in that?

Don't know about the name, but the military often gave them different names on those days.

Although they didn't rename the Heron.

So it's possible

It's a wonder they accepted the name for the Beverley...not exactly a 'macho' name for the military!

As to the a/c name,well it looked like a Dove,sounded like a Dove and flew like a Dove so it must have been a Devon! If the devil had cast his net on that floght,what a haul he would have got EricT

Just found out the Air Atlantique Dove has been leased to Conciar for pleasure flights mainly out of Goodwood.
