I am no expert, in fact I don't know my Srs1's and my Srs2's from my elbow.

You don't need to be an expert mate.. Srs1's have fixed undercarriage and Srs2's retractable undercarriage. If you want to push it a little further, the Srs2 is a bit faster because it's arms and legs don't dangle in the air

I have DW's Heron as AI on my system doing the rounds up in Scotland I can understand folk wanting to make it a 'flyer' by adding a panel as a proper Heron is long overdue in the FS world. There would be a proper flyer available now were it not for a catalogue of bad luck precluding DelP finishing his Srs1 and Srs2. They may find their way out into the big wide world one day.. I sincerely hope so but until then.. simmers have to go with what they have

The screen shots are fixed UC only because I used a different download model. After finding another one on my spare box, it is fully retractable.

I'm SO glad that I started this thread with the above disclaimers!

You can sit in the corner with me, Graham. I'll inhale your hangover - it'll be almost as good as having a drink by the sound of it!
It's a bit like the conversation about the BAe 146; the more you know of something, the more you will rise up against inaccuracies. Human nature.
There have been downloads which I've found visually offensive and I've unceremoniously dumped them.
I know that nobody is denying you this, but you've had the pleasure of flying your Heron, and that is what simming is for.
Others get theirs from calculating their luggage and fuel load to the nth degree, and delivering the whole shebang on time, at the right airport. As I said, how they do it without a propellor on the front, mystifies me.


What does concern me presently is the news of a catalogue of setbacks for our esteemed Heron builder. Shall we hear some background on this?

I think the background is all here.. well, a lot of it anyway and as my memory is about as reliable as a politician's sincerity.. I'll not try and detail anything specific. Basically, the bad luck started when DelP's VW camper van broke and he found himself going to work on 2 wheels of the manual variety. A bit of black ice saw him come off and the end result was a broken wrist. It goes without saying that modelling with a broken wrist is impossible so this was the start of the setbacks. I can't remember the full history since but suffice to say, neither the wrist nor the Heron project fully recovered.
I fiddled with the FD until I could fiddle no more and sent the lot to Fraser for final tweaking and marrying up to the panel and that is where it is. I'm sure Derek would like to add the odd rivet here and there but as far as I was concerned.. it was good enough to go, even as an unfinished product. I don't know if Fraser ever completed what he needed to do.

So there you have it. So close and yet so far

I have these. The aircraft is one that Dee waldron made for AI and someone converted to a flyer, cant remember who now.

It was me. Guilty m'Lord. It was never intended to be perfect but it has filled a gap and has given many others, as well as me, a lot of pleasure. Its on AVSIM - list of "bits" at http://www.adventure-unlimited.org/projects.php . Its pretty basic by today's standards, I know.

I still have one repaint (by the late Billy Rutherford) to upload - another, completely different, Heron Airlines livery which completes their fleet but I'm not quite sure when or if I will get round to it.

Nevertheless, I would be very pleased to see a "proper" FS2004 Heron but I have a feeling it may never happen.

It will happen, when Derek gets a few things sorted. FS has had to take a back seat but it is still an active programme, albeit on hold, but it is active.

Sorry to hear about DelP's problems.Look on the bright side though,having to rest his wrist is no bad thing.Could even be good for the eyesight!Hope you will soon firing on all cylinders Derek. EricT

As I mentioned earlier.. the Heron (to my mind at least) is 'at least' good enough to go even as it is now. Modellers are never happy and as time goes by, what was 'close' looks rubbish. I can say the same for painters too. I've done a few in my time that looked fine when I did them but look again a while later and they're cr@p If the model was left until Del was happy, it'd go nowhere and that applies to Rick, DM and DG too.

The Heron has loads of paints both for the Srs1 and Srs2 and all it really needs is for Fraser to tie up the ends regarding gauge readings Vs airfile/cfg and for the lot to be stitched together. It goes pretty much like a Heron should go and it certainly looks like one. The panel is a treat (like looking at the Dove but moreso) and we have sounds for it. It's so very close as far as I'm concerned though I don't have the final say. It'll be released one day I'm sure

I think I speak for many when I say I'm absolutely desperate for the Heron to be released! I have personal reasons too. My dad used to work on them for Peters Aviation and I've been promising for years that one day we'll fly a virtual recreation together of a real flight he did from Norwich to Cyprus in 1975. The old fella's getting on a bit, and to be honest I'd love to be able to have this shared FS experience with him while I still can. I have every confidence in the team that as usual this release will be of a very high standard, whether they think so or not. Trust me, as I writer I know how hard it is to let go of a labour of love and unleash it upon the world, there's no such thing as ultimate perfection! Good luck and thanks in advance.
