Hi Dave. I don't recall a John Thatcher, but I may well have. There was a mechanic named John who was killed after he hitched a ride to Shoreham and the plane crashed.

Ah.. it wouldn't be that one Dennis.. he's still going strong and part of the Vanguard crew at Brooklands

While he was an engineer with BOAC at LHR, I know he used to do 'foreigners' at Fairoaks on his days off. It's possible you've met him on your many visits to the museum so had you known him, I guess you'd have recognised him. Don't see a lot of him now though.. nor most of last year. He was a regular on Sat/Wed but his wifes ill health keeps him closer to home.

How times have changed - a few years ago I was involved with rigging the flaps on an A340 after a flap change - and it was all done by laser alignment.
