Radio controlled clocks are a pain

My Mum had some and if the batter went flat there was no way to adjust the time, we had to wait for the next signal which seemed to be perhaps twice a day.

I avoid them like the plague

it's the lack of an overide I dislike...the keeping time is fine, when it gets the signal

I have to admit that after the battery has died on my watch, it's a pain in the arse to get right again. It only pulls the time signal at either 0100 or 0200 I think (which is all it needs in reality).. the main problem being that the batteries last so long, even with the book in front of me, I can't remember how I got it to work the time before

That said.. a watch/clock/timepiece that doesn't tell the time isn't worth having so it's nice to know that at least ONE timepiece in the house is always right

I use a digital watch for work so I can blow my whistle bang on time

I set it every week or so from Windows Internet Time on the computer, just doing a manual synchronisation first, just to make sure it's the latest update.

Surely that must be reliable? It's Microsoft!

Most radio controlled clocks let you do a manual update, i.e. make it check the time when you want, certainly I've got two Casio radio controlled watches and they both have that option, you just hold one of the buttons down for a few seconds and it goes into receive mode.
Mind you I had the opposite shock to most people this morning as it turns out my phone and bed side alarm also reset themselves over night so it was in fact when they said it was and not an hour earlier.

The ones we had..my mums, had no buttons at all.

Perhaps they were just cheaper versions.

An overide of any sort would make it superb

The RC watch I have is a Casio 'Wave Cepter' and the manual malarky just doesn't work for me. It could be me of course I can get it to tell 'roughly' the correct time but it's not bang on until the following day. Didn't cost a lot and has been one of the best watches I've ever had.. notwithstanding the 'reset' issue after a battery change

Maybe it a US thing and not supported in the free world??

That could be why the locally bought clocks didn't have one???

speaking about changing clocks i will always remember a few years ago when in the spring when i didnt realise my phone automatically changed so i went and changed it anyway and landed up nearly missing a coach to manchester airport.

It was only during my panic that i noticed that my Digital clock automatically updates so i was realived to see that i still had an hour to go
