OK, one last try! How impressed would you be with an iPhone like your daughters' that had a screen that was big enough for you to see all those amazing things properly? That's simply what an iPad is; it has the same software and the same apps but the size means that you can use all those amazing things without squinting and endlessly scrolling. As for justifying the cost, it works out about the same as a smart phone. I don't have a smart phone, just a small pay-as-you-go which I use for phone calls and texts and costs me a fiver a month. So that justifies the cost
Despite popular misconception, I'm not a gadget freak. I've got one laptop, a nice mountain bike and modest sized smart TV and my iPad. The iPad has taken over nearly all of the duties of the laptop and that only gets turned on for FS, accounting and website stuff. The pad also does all the smartphone stuff except for communication. So in fact it becomes the central tool and the other two have become peripheral. This is mainly because of its ease of use. You decide to send an email or google something or check what's happening at CBFS. Pick up the pad, instant on, do your thing, instant off - no need to get up off the couch
These tablet things really are so good and can be used for so much they should be compulsory. Hopefully this will be my last word on the subject. But that's probably unlikely
I do a much better selling job at work. At least five people have bought a tablet after having one of my guided tours and now they're as evangelistic as I am!

Well yes its all very lovely, but its still in
addition to what I already have; thats the crucial thing. I really cant justify forking out for one, when I already have a fairly powerful desktop ( currently being upgraded as you know ) and a pretty competent laptop thats under a year old. I'd have to put on UV blocker with them all running. And I certainly can't justify the cost just in order to run some FS radio apps while my laptop has something similar.
Now the Iphone is a different matter - my current mobile is starting to look a little battered, and there are times in London when I wish I could bring up a map, or check train times, or find a book shop, or whatever. So the Iphone is fairly justifiable, and would
replace what I have.
( I bet I end up getting a bloody Ipad )

Yes. I'm afraid it's inevitable. I was just trying to save you from getting an iPhone as well.

Getting back on to the subject of FS Apps if you
have got an iPad ...
I like these add-on panels so much that I've splashed out on a complete panel of flight instruments. I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for yet (

) but I think I'll be using it for GA flying in 'awesome' scenery so I can fill the screen with natural wonders

I think it will also be useful on some of my more antiquated jets when I'm fiddling to do an auto approach in the VC panel.
For £8.99 you get a total of 14 dials of different types and styles to suit your aircraft and you can customise your panel to suit. The knobs and switches all respond smoothly to touch.
While I was in the App store I also spotted these RC simulators, which were free. You can practice crashing RC aircraft without the hassle of sticking them back together. It took five goes before I managed a landing (well, crashed with the wheels on the ground

) You can buy more aircraft and more parks if you want.

Remarkable!
I think the iPads cost more than the RC model and glue though but of course, you can crash them time and time again with impunity

You can actually buy those things for RC models.. controlling the aircraft with a device very similar to a transmitter but then again, you can't read the times online on one

Yes I know that place. Its probably the only interesting shop in the Grand Arcade. Everything else is women's fashion boutiques...gawd, what is it with women and clothes ? How many dresses and shoes can you wear at any one time ?
Anyway, you say that I don't need an Iphone if I have an Ipad, right ? How do you make a phone call on an Ipad ? I haven't seen anyone walking around holding an Ipad to their ear and talking down the other end of it ...so how does that work ?

Anyone who uses an iPad to make a phone call should be put against the wall. Its no different than 80's merchant bankers (slang intended) using mobile phones the size of bricks as a status symbol, sorry but it has to be said.
